And any possibility of that policy becoming something concrete went out the window once Russia invaded, didn't it?
Long before that, the decision to invade Ukraine was not a spur of the moment but planned (badly) years before that. Early 2020 seems about right. Around that time Ukraine tried to amend Minsk and Russia refused.

On the far left and far right the argument that Ukraine should have done more for peace is used for stopping support. And though for some it is evident, there is no evidence.
That is why it matters to me.

Easy to remember when the thugs are trying to repeat it. Good news - the latest missile attacks did minimal damage, 70% were intercepted and destroyed, most cities had services restored within 24 hours. No military targets hit and resolve by Ukraine stiffened. Russia just blew thru several billions of $$ to hit some hospitals and kill and maim civilians.

That wasn't the point which I called self-evident. It was that Zelensky tried to stop the militias on the 2014 border to the break-away states and failed.

This is tangentially insightful to an aspect of Ukrainian government which is worth noting, that the Ukrainian President is not the CIC of armed forces like a US POTUS is.

Interesting article, thanks, a president visiting the front lines and discussing the situation. First hand intelligence. Hands on.

You make from the article that Zelensky tried to stop the the militias on the 2014 border to the break-away states and failed.

Stopping the militias from what ? Only in creating were the grey zone was. And the guys on the front and civilians living there were not agreeing with that small retreat.
NOT about stopping the militias defending Ukraine from Russian aggression in Donbas.

PS you called it evident the Ukrainian people wanted to end the war and give in to Russian control over Donbas and Crimea and elected Zelensky who promised that. Which is not true.

A bit more damage then that, many High Voltage Transformers have been hit. They cost more then a million a piece. And are not available on the market.
But there is a workaround with older transformers which are being disposed of by countries for newer ones. They are on the market. Needs some trickery to work, but it seems that Ukr is capable of that. Hats of to the engineers.
An avantage they have now is that the workaround is much harder to hit with missiles.

Ukraine has long been known for ingenuity and engineering - I read today that the guy who developed the heavy rocket the Russians use was from Ukraine.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_Korolev Russia is still using the same design today. Without Ukraine Russia is potato.

I did not say Zelensky promised that, I said he promised to seek normalization in relations to Russia, which he did. Considering they still occupied everything they had taken in 2014 and the lines had been static for five years what else could it be?

It's plain the issue between Zelesky and the militia is he wanted them to pull back and stop fighting. This was not to stop defending, it was to stop the fight to take back the occupied areas. The Special Monitoring Mission which documented the fighting between 2014 and 2022 shows the nature of that fighting. I've posted now three things which show what Zelensky was trying to do, the report on his first six months, the Kyiv article, and now a video of how the militias reacted to his request.

The satellite purchased by the Serhiy Prytula Foundation has helped the Chief Intelligence Department of Ukraine’s Defence Ministry reveal around 2,600 pieces of Russian military equipment.

News has been saying that for a couple of months now. Hopefully it's true this time.
US have used concrete munitions for a while. A direct hit will destroy the target with minimal collateral damage.

I'm not suggesting that this is the reason for Russian use.
