While repairable, I would wager that airframe will be mothballed at least temporarily. They have others. Why put effort into repairing it when they can just use another one?
I thought that piece of aircraft looked a little too shredded to be duct-taped back into action. There's no such thing as "minor damage" to an aircraft. It's not like you can fly it while you are waiting for the body shop to fix the elevators.
The tape used in aviation and motorsports for minor faults is called "speed tape"-yes; both Airlines and stock car racers use it sometimes. I taped in my battens with rigging tape, I wonder what would happen with speed tape.I thought that piece of aircraft looked a little too shredded to be duct-taped back into action.
I never understood that. For a near mach 2 aircraft, anyone behind has already launched a missile from 30 miles back. Are you shooting the missile or the interceptor? Neither will end in much joy.it still has a tail gun?
Useless, but probably a pretty cool ride back there.it still has a tail gun?
The bullets are stationary when they exit the muzzle. Takes deceleration out of the ballistics calculation. When you're targeting computer is using vacuum tubes, every simplification helps.I never understood that. For a near mach 2 aircraft, anyone behind has already launched a missile from 30 miles back. They could release a flock of geese.
Yes; the firing solution may be the straight piece of coat hanger through the filing cards. Times change more slowly than we think. The bullets are stationary when they exit the muzzle.
