No, no, no - a retired non-com tanker is a true expert at commanding warfare.I’m always intrigued why folks with military experience always think they’d be better at foreign policy than anyone else in the room.
Banging in some nails doesn’t make you a carpenter, and carpenters can’t design a cathedral.
Not a perfect analogy, but ya gotta be able to demonstrate relevant prior experience before you’re in charge of big projects.
Or a gravel truck...No, no, no - a retired non-com tanker is a true expert at commanding warfare.
I mean if you can drive or load a tank, you should be able to steer a nation through a war - no?
I only need to find one to refute an unqualified claim.OK, one
How about since then?
Fair enough. I generalized, and shoulda spoken more specifically about self-important loud types.im always amazed that some people think all service and ex servicemen are all alike
I wouldn't find that to be a profitable bet. Quoting one of my faves, people tend to overvalue wagers involving low probability of high gain and undervalue wagers involving high probability of low gain. You'd lose a LOT of money making that bet before it paid off.I only need to find one to refute an unqualified claim.
But generally I agree with you though WW2 with unconditional surrender is kind of marginal. There weren't any negotiations to speak of.

Not really, no... but there was a lot of work by various non-military gov't types, finding and credentialling a German gov't to take the surrender of. My reading mostly says Doenitz had no ambition to be the big boss and felt he was picked by Patton as a fall guy (the Germans had the idea Patton was much more important than he really was). He was also outraged to be charged with war crimes afterward.I only need to find one to refute an unqualified claim.

Adm. Donitz was, briefly, the president of Germany. Technically it was in that capacity he arranged the surrender, not as a military commander. Not really, no... but there was a lot of work by various non-military gov't types, finding and credentialling a German gov't to take the surrender of.
