He's probably right about it. In the open the Rooskies are likely to get creamed. Zaporizhia and Crimea are takable. Note his mention of how costly urban combat is. When it comes time to take big places like the city of Donetsk it will depend on if the Russian infantry will fight like their great-grandpappys did in Stalingrad, or perhaps like those Wagner jailbirds did in Bakmut. Morale should not be confused with desire to achieve political objectives. It can also be a simple matter of knowing beyond all doubt one has to fight or die.

You got a point there. It could be the red line. If the Ukrainians gain full control of Zaporizhia and take out the Kerch bridge Crimea will be impossible for the Russians to defend though, so the Russians might be open to a return to the pre-2014 situation. The Ukrainians would be wise to at least consider agreeing to that if it happens.

Idealism can be a stupid game too.

A restoration of the pre 2014 condition would return all the Crimean land lost to Ukraine without sacrificing the men and ammo which would be spent retaking it, and a hell of a lot of damage to infrastructure. It would also restore the ability to once again ship Crimea's grain through Sevastopol.

it can be used to monitor all maritime movements including submarine quite easily .
