Think of the A4 pilots in the original Top Gun, but with civilian pilots instead of navy instructors.
Air support would require suppression of anti-air assets. That's a heavy lift. More so than a few planes. Unless you want to watch all your close-air-support assets get shot down.So Ukr is on the attack, not on a big scale, but probing and capturing higher points.
It is fucked up that they have to do it with almost no air support.
