Thanks. The article says it's a one-time shot, so I presume no blank or dummy rounds.

I've been training recently on using an antique and irreplaceable piece of scientific equipment and it's an interesting experience for someone who knows more about software. No wiggle room for mistakes.

Not sure which system you are talking about, but the one-time shot almost certainly relates to a single live round. But there is also training using inert rounds for loading, that wouldn't be counted. Some systems also have training rounds that duplicate firing but without the range or destructive power (sort of like blanks for small arms)

I was talking about this, from https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/03/12/inside-story-britain-armed-ukraines-resistance-russia/

NLAWs weigh just 12.5kg (27lbs) and shoot a 6in-diameter, high-explosive missile over a range of 20 to 400m for moving targets, or 800m for stationary vehicles. Operators line up the target through the telescopic sight, pull the trigger, and the missile is fired at 440mph using its own navigation and guidance system to hit the target by tracking it and predicting where it will be after the short time the missile is in the air. The Belfast-made NLAW is designed to fly above a tank and blast the warhead down into the turret, where the armour is weakest.....Each NLAW costs £30,000 and is single-use, meaning it cannot be reloaded – which may seem a lot of money, until you consider that it can destroy a tank that costs upwards of £4 million, some 133 times as much as the NLAW that blew it up.

As you said, simulators for training, it seems. https://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/2013/12/66-came-back-can-charlie-g/nlaw-training-aid/ A soldier is pictured aiming a practice NLAW (Next Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon). This training aid simulates the real NLAW launcher but fires a laser at armoured vehicles equipped to receive the beam.

Ah, now I understand. Obviously with those there is no re-loading so no need for inert rounds for practising.

You may be interested to know that (in theory at least) any equipment development programme must identify how it will be supported and how training will be achieved in parallel to the development, to ensure you don't get to the end and then have the same head-scratch that you did. In the UK this is done under the "Defence Lines of Development" (DLODs) which makes you consider these and other such.

How do you train someone on a weapon when it's £30K a pop to fire it? Anyone know?
simulator.

I made a few calls about the grey eagle question - the responses suggest the media writing has been sloppy, and don't think that Ukraine is operating yet.

wow - here is someone on the wrong side of history:

"Bernie Ecclestone says he would 'take a bullet' for 'first class' Vladimir Putin as he defends war in Ukraine. The former F1 boss said Russian President Vladimir Putin was a "first class person" who had made "mistakes" - as he criticised Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy for "not listening" to the Kremlin."

Wow indeed, and he added that Hamilton should "brush aside" the racial slurs against him.

His words about Putin included:
"Unfortunately he's like a lot of business people, certainly like me, that we make mistakes from time to time and when you make the mistake, you have to do the best you can to get out of it."

I'm a business person. But my mistakes don't including the senseless slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people. And I don't see Putin doing his best to get out of this mistake.

As you say, on the wrong side of history - and morality. Arsehole in fact

Let's recall what the russian federation lost near/on Snake Island: cruiser "Moscow"; 5 Raptor-type boats; amphibious boat of the "Serna" type; tugboat "Vasily Bykh"; vessel "Vsevolod Bobrov" (damaged); ~ 5 "Thor" air defense systems;3-4 units of ZRGK "Pantsyr S-1"; Radars; Mi-8 helicopter with landing gear; Mi-26 helicopter. ammunition; more than 100-200 personnel.

Is there a suggestion above, in the (yes, ridiculous) excuse by Ru about why they are abandoning Snake Island, that they are actually okay with a food convoy from out of Ukr?

They could have stationed all the Russian army on the Island and still not block grain transports.
Just do not shoot ships. So easy. Problem solved. So this Russian claim is utterly hokum.

Source; Russia MOD, but lets wait for confirmation.
The Turks are "working on it", FWIW.

Hopefully it's part of the 'pound of flesh' Erdo got for allowing Sweden and Finland to join NATO. Not optimistic about anything immediate though. Russian grain continues to flow, there's a lot of it, so Russia has an incentive to keep prices high. I'd guess they plan to give in eventually though, the political fallout from around the globe will put serious pressure on this when people begin to starve.

It is merely an indication the Russians know being viewed as blocking the grain is not a good thing for them, which is a good thing. But Snake Island is within range of the French Caesars which have reportedly arrived at Odessa.

Occupation of Snake, for the Rooskies, isn't a viable option anymore.

Turkey, Indonesia, Greece, all tried and keep trying. Only if Russia orders their navy and airforce to back of from any action to merchant shipping and make know where their mines are placed, there can be bulk transports from Odesa. But Russia still hitting grain storages, infrastructure etc...

Russia trying to be thrown out of the UN ? If this law gets approved it is disregard of the UN rules.

A bill on the procedure for admission of new territories to the #Russian Federation has been submitted to the #Duma. The bill proposes that a part of a foreign state is to be accepted into #Russia "regardless of the location of the borders of this foreign state or its parts".

Imperialist barbarians. It is 1939 all over again, anschluss.
