The speech is remarkable, it is the most agressive ever from Russia, worse then Stalin. He topped him.
Putin is setting military goals to grab more land, while they are on the back foot. Weird and a setup for failure.
Putin also has given the west greater reason to support Ukraine. This illegal land grab goes against the all principles of self-determination and democracy. And it sets a terrible precedent for behaviour by large states - this can not be allowed to stand.
If he succeeds next he will try to blow up NATO from the inside, he has one comrade already, Hungary, for now. And grab more land.
Only answer possible of the EU, cut out Russia, new cold war.
And it shows that there is no negotiated end to this war in the near future. Putin stated that the future of the 4 provinces will not be discussed. With mobilisation, Putin went all in.
If he loses more ground, he still can convince Russians that he won in a way, due to state propaganda and being a dictatorship. As all that carry thoughts to overthrown him are fighting themselves for survival. Windows are open for everyone to fall out. But many Russians will wonder what the fuck happened to their glorious army.
And in Ukraine he is running out of options, so far city destructions, rape, torture, murder, annexation and nuclear threats have not subdued the Ukrainians. He can nuke a city, and still the Ukrainian will fight on. Making Russia itself a big open target.

Though Barfy's russian channel portrays almost the same situation, albeit with different expectations. So the situation is based on facts that both sides are reporting, not propoganda
And if don't think losing 5000 troops (and all their equipment) in one town would blow a hole then you need to think about nunbers

Armed Forces of Ukraine concentrated the main efforts on three sections of the roads: Liman - Zarechnoye , Torskoye - Kremennaya , Torskoye - Svatovo . Properly distributing forces, the Ukrainian formations focused on cutting the lines of communication of the Russian troops.
At the same time, the pushing of the Russian defensive orders continued in Liman itself , Stavki , the northern environs of Yampol and along the "road of life" .
By noon on October 1, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to physically cut the Torskoye-Svatovo road and pin down the forces of the RF Armed Forces in a battle in the Ternov region .
The Ukrainian flag was raised at the western entrance ( 49.012093, 37.772098) to Liman : at least 20% of the city was controlled by the enemy by that time. This is evidenced by the absence of sounds of small arms combat and artillery strikes at the western entrance to the city.
The fighting shifted to the center and eastern part of Liman , the southern outskirts of Stavki , and the northern outskirts of Yampol . Communication between Torsky and the Liman garrison is blocked by fire.
The RF Armed Forces strike at Zarechny (Kirovsk) , which includes Ukrainian formations. It is through Zarechnoye that the Liman-Torskoye road passes.
The Torskoye-Kremennaya road is under constant fire control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian maneuver groups are trying to tie up Russian units in battle.

Agreed with all, just want to add (with an apology for the political content) that Russia has another powerful ally in blowing up NATO from inside: the US Republican Party. Many of them are openly pro-Russian, the right-slanted media in the US is saying that Biden is a war criminal and we (the USA) is supporting the wrong side in this war.

Sigh....so in Putin's mind the invasion of Ukraine was is in response to the Polish-Russian war of 1598? By the way, this is a pet project of Putin. He reinstated "Unity Day" in 2005 to celebrate the surrender of the Polish garrison. The Soviet Russians had ceased celebrating this many decades ago , because this really wasn't about Poland trying to invade Russia, it was a civil war between various contenders for the succession to the throne of the Tsar and their various mercenary troops. There is something ironic and appropriate about Putin reinstating a holiday to celebrate the victory of the Romanovs over the Dmitrys and the execution of the 3 year old son of Dmitry.

Vlad has abandoned the goal of invading all of the Ukraine, and will accept terms as long as he can keep D,L,Z and K. Ukraine is not so foolish as to accept that offer.

Chechnya governor Ramzan Kadyrov accused Colonel General Aleksandr Lapin, who was put in charge of the western grouping of Russian troops in early September, of the failure of Russian troops near the city of Lyman, Donetsk Oblast in his Telegram post.
He complained that Lapin deployed "mobilized" fighters from the "LPR" and other units at all the borders of the Lyman axis, but did not provide them with the necessary communication, interaction and ammunition. Kadyrov also accused Lapin of moving his headquarters away from front.
