I think we all realise it involves real people. We all deplore the suffering. The fact remains that if Russia wins suffering in UKr will continue for years, and Russia will likely then invade somewhere else before long.

So the best thing is for UKr to win as quickly as possible, and that is what we are commenting on. We could start every post with a disclaimer about the suffering, but that doesn't make it go away, nor does it necessarily mean we empathise any more. So take such comments as read if you like.

Wondered the same.

On the suffering, and especially the civilian suffering, it was good to see RU withdraw from Izyum. If UKR had flattened that city Mariupol-style it would have been a lot worse for everyone. Sievierodonetsk is a potential bloodbath to come, here's hoping something similar happens instead.

Kherson., unconfirmed reports.
6 UAF Bn's (2xTank and 4xMech) broke through the front at Dudchany and the RU front has collapsed, UKR moving too fast for RU to dig trenches.
Khreshchenivka has been taken, RU's openly calling for air support via social media.

Update and very unconfirmed. Multiple RU sources confirm that UKR army is already attacking Berislav. This means the entire North East Kherson front has collapsed.

Now reports of russian defence collapsing further north near Nikopol as well. Ludendorff called 8th Aug the Black Day for the German Army. Today is looking even worse for RUF

Yes, if true... Berislav is just about on the outskirts of Kherson, Nikopol is not so far from Zaporizhzhia.

Call up a draft, declare victory, appoint leaders to "annexed" regions, and hold some weird rally's while your remaining unsupported army gets its ass drilled? Then act like nothing happened while he tries to hold onto power? Staying in Ukraine any longer doesn't seem like a good idea for Putin's health.

Spent some time reading about Ukrainian army in WW2.

They made up almost 40% of Russian forces and fought like demons.

They don't seem like people you want to fuck with.

It's reasonable enough for those with an interest in and knowledge about military developments to post about them here and I don't think they have to emote about the horrors of war every time they do so.

There is, at times here, a lack of compassion for RUS soldiers who largely joined up prior to the war because of limited other opportunities in their impoverished regions and are there because they were ordered to be. Some are clearly bestial but I am sure many are not. Dying on retreat from Lyman is a sad end for some mother's son. That may have been the point of your post, I'm not really sure.

Temperamentally I lean towards the objective rather than the partisan, doubtless at times to the annoyance of some. Given the evil being rained down on UKR, I don't believe it is the right time for that approach and I've stopped commenting on concerns I might have about some UKR policies and elements in its military.

Earlier in the war in criticised some Ukr actions also (e.g. breaking Geneva convention by filming POWs). Some here didn't like that. Personally I feel we should still comment on any concerns @dogwatch . I only haven't commented on such things of late because I haven't seen much - which may just be that they are not getting reported (as much) or they may have changed policies (perhaps under pressure from West).
