The primary message towards the end of this video is that the air war has shifted to drones and whether Ukraine can come up with an answer to Russian drones. The answer is currently inconclusive but there seems to be no doubt that Russia conventional air power superiority has been denied.

Drones are not that sophisticated. It seems improbable to me that the West cannot come up with an effective answer to neutralize $20,000 unsophisticated drones.

The problem is that sophisticated, highly technical air defense systems firing million dollar missiles designed to take out sophisticated supersonic aircraft and cruise missiles are not the only answer. Ukraine needs cost-effective anti-drone technology. Something perhaps that the Israelis are good at?

The clear sign of Russian propaganda on social media is that there is a concerted effort to try and divide US opinions on Ukraine by creating a myth that liberals support Ukraine and conservatives oppose supporting Ukraine and that somehow (giggle), it is unpatriotic and unAmerican to support democracy in Ukraine. We see you!

I would agree that he (or she) is unlikely to be a high level social media poster. However, to be fair, Sailing Anarchy is probably a tougher assignment than it looks from the outside.

I almost feel some sympathy for Dopeybike. I would like to see if his boss can fare any better.

What is Russia's military strategy?​

The official military doctrine of the Russian Federation does not mention Ukraine, Donbass or Crimea. But read between the lines.

The section "Main External Military Dangers" refers, among other things, to neighboring states. They, according to the doctrine, threaten Russia in the following six cases:

1. If they deploy foreign troops on their territories and waters.

2. They have territorial claims to the Russian Federation.

3. If a war is being waged on the territory of a neighboring country. Moreover, it is not specified whether this is an external or internal conflict.

4. If armed radical groups or foreign PMCs operate in the adjacent territory.

5. The establishment of regimes in neighboring states whose policies threaten the interests of the Russian Federation (including as a result of the overthrow of legitimate authorities).

6. Subversive activities of special services of other states against Russia.

Ukraine falls under all six factors. NATO exercises are regularly held on its territory, Kyiv is demanding that Moscow return Crimea, a war is raging in the Donbass, radical groups are operating throughout the country, and Ukrainian special services are acting against Russia.

So, what do YOU propose should be done about this war? I'm intrigued to find out your suggestions for peace to break out.

It is not a "Liberal" thing to see the Russian land grab for what it is. It is part of his (and those that surround him) insatiable desire to expand the scope of their control and enlarge their image as mighty and brutal. One might think he is the embodiment of the old saying "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely". The only thing is, I am pretty sure he was completely corrupt before he got to the top and it was his degree of corruptness that helped him get to where he is.

I considered myself "conservative" until a few years ago. Over the decades, I've voted for about as many Republicans as Democrats and never really cared much about party affiliation; until I grew increasingly unhappy with mega-religious and segregationist Republicans in this state, and fascist asshole Republicans on the national scene. I'm not enthused about Democrats but I am mostly anti-Republican nowadays; otherwise my views haven't changed.

Interesting tidbit:

Germany wanted to give a Patriot AD system to Poland.

Poland said give it to Ukraine instead.

Germany said "Nope" to the suggestion.

Poland now says, OK give it to us. To me, it sounds like they might be trying to set it up to intercept Russian missiles on their way to Ukraine targets near the border.

Pretty sure that Ukraine has about the same love for the Poles as the Russians, but States are either friends or enemies based on interests. They might be civil today but if Ukraine becomes a failed state who knows how the borders may be adjusted.

Many are volunteers but you will be surprised how many get working allowances etc.
It is not exactly a highly paid profession so it doesn't attract the brightest and best or even the average and merely mediocre. They are given a message, a script and some useful links and allowed to get on with it. The repetitive nature of the message ....."Only liberals support Ukraine....the Ukrainians are Nazis....Russia will destroy any countries that get involved ....Might is right....Democracies dont work" etc etc is always a red flag.

The sheer inconsistency of the message makes me shake my head. Liberals support Nazis ? Really ! A nation with a Jewish president is a Nazi regime? Yeah , right! The Democrats are part of a military-industrial conspiracy? Okay.....and the Republicans are the party that wants to reduce the military? Could they at least do their homework.
Among the most absurd of all; Russia is winning? If retreating is winning, I would hate to see what defeat looks like.

However the one that takes the biscuit is the posts claiming that the West doesnt have the resources to endure supporting a sustained war against Russia. The $1,400 billion combined defense budgets of the NATO allies somehow cannot compete with the $77 billion spending of Russia in outdated and uncompetitive military technology that is skimmed by corruption. I have seen broken nags at the Derby with better odds than Russia.

Russia is more likely to win the FIFA World Cup than succeed in Ukraine.

There's a report out on the Bakhmut situation that Ukraine has deployed a new artillery battalion which is having a significant effect and there's an RU order that artillery shells are to be stored at least 100k from the front line which is creating logistical problems and frontline shortages. They are meant to be relying more on their airforce so someone high up is out of the loop.

Far from true. MANPADs will come from below (not that guns would do much against starstreak for example), and many others will now come on an intercept path.
