Really? So explain why I volunteered (we don't conscript in our free and democratic country) for our army. Indeed I even served in Germany in the cold war, ready to defend the beliefs I hold dear against the dystopian regine that was the soviet union.

Kudos to you, for sure. I almost joined ROTC in College, for a variety of career opportunity and patriotic reasons.
Am not sure I could have volunteered to throw myself into a seriously hot war at an age when I had plenty left to still live for. But I suppose the Ukranian troops are well-motivated given how blatantly in-the-face the fight is. I posted numbers some time ago about the salaries they are getting that depended on their positions, they began at around $3.5K/mo, and so while that may not be much encouragement, should be ten times higher, it is at least something to add to the larger motivation.
If RU attacked my state/county/neighborhood, at my age when I've already completed more than a plentiful of life experiences? Hell yes, I'd volunteer to try to take down as many of the bastards as possible before inevitably giving my life for in the cause.

Stingers I can see you sitting in a bunker flying those amazing drones with heat seeking rockets, or drones to give GPS coords for the accurate weapons. I am sure you would account for far more enemy losses than with an assault rifle.
But, but... I took out a clay pigeon or two with a shotgun, just a few years ago?
It really is amazing how drones are so big a part in this war, from Mini's up to UAV's. They are used even for delivering medical supplies to the front lines.

I like to think that given the choice of us old fucks going to war or our children, we'd all volunteer to go. It isn't out of the question that this may happen. I'm too old to charge around with a weapon, but that wouldn't stop me from driving a supply vehicle, or programming drones.
If you look at the age of some of the guys fighting for Ukraine, a lot of them have made the same decision.

Like I said too, if it came basically into your hometown then one's attitude could change radically. I don't have kids by choice but do have a strong community that I'd protect maybe to death depending the threat.

Cobbling together the AFVs and tanks, UkrA will end up with a couple of fully modernized armored brigades (note the number of M1s - 31 - not a random number) and a small, modern tanks corps to open holes in lines.
Still, the Archer artillery system and ground launches small diameter bomb are more important in my opinion.
In other news, Reznikov might be out.
