I think you're right; Sevastapol (and control of water to it) seems like the main prize.
My guess too, is that if UKR takes back Sevastapol then much of the reason for RU to stay engaged gets greatly reduced. It is key to the conflict and so this new 'secure' land bridge too.

Read history, you are thinking small. In geopolitics all that matter are "interests" This war is existential for Russia and they cannot lose because nuclear weapons. Ask yourself this, how would you expect the US to respond to a Cuban missile crisis in Mexico today?

This is not an overseas adventure far from the lounge rooms of overfed suburbanites like most of the US "freedom" wars have been. This is on Russia's doorstep, ceasefire, negotiation, treaty thats how this will end or in a mushroom cloud and we all lose.

Your take might make more sense if Ukraine had invaded Russia and posed an existential threat to Russia. it didn't start that may last year or during earlier incursions in Crimea and the east. Russia has been the aggressor throughout. This war could end quickly and easily, Russia pulls its forces out of the areas they invaded and all parties gather in Geneva for a diplomatic bun toss.

And Russia already has NATO countries on its borders. Moronbike's argument has been refuted repeatedly but he likes to troll so he keeps repeating it.

Because Russia honors its treaty obligations regarding territorial sovereignty so well
I understand that to those who don't believe there can or even should be a negotiated settlement to this war this was a highly offensive thing to suggest. But the topic was about face-saving solutions.

Unless one believes Ukraine will invade and end Russia the assumption they will be neighbors must be made.

Yes, but from now on Ukraine will need NATO protection.

Perhaps. Then again, perhaps Ukraine and Russia can re-establish cordial relations after this war too. Predictions are difficult to make, particularly about the future.
The only "cordial" the Russians will get from the Ukrainians will be served at either POW camps or the Hague.

There was no missile crisis. The blood is all on Putin, for his deadly move to try to expand his power Stalin or 'Peter the Great' style.

History will not treat Putin well, he fucked up.

did you read Branko Marcetic's article i posted? You are parroting a simplistic narrative created for mass consumption.

Another gravyseal with a yacht

RU's nuclear policy is that they will never attack or initiate a first strike, but if their homeland is threatened they will used them to defend. Thats what uneducated political simpletons like you fail to understand since the US has never faced a threat apart from excess twinkies, too much fatty food and suchlike.

A lot of people go into war believing there must never be any compromises...but not many who are actually fighting it.

Agree, sitting on the sidelines discussing/sharing war porn is not exactly skin in the game. I feel very moved by the losses in UKR as a human being, for the loss of life caused by the actions of both sides, but I despise the feeding of young bodies into the meatgrinder by bloodless war profiteers and all their supporters
