Ah - it was bought by COSCO who is #4. I wonder if COSCO will also do this.

So far China;

1. OOCL (chinas largest shipper) just announced that they will no longer ship containers to russia.
2. china has barred the servicing of commercial aircraft in china
3. china has banned russian credit cards in china
4. china has refused to send dual use machine tools to russia
5. the only weapons that have been sent are 1000 semi auto AR15 nock offs that are not good at all. and helmets and protection. AFAWK.
6. china has blocked north korea from sending arms to russia, not confirmed but shell hunger is striking russia.
7. china has undercut russian arms sales by going after former russian customers and offering china versions of the same systems.
8. china has had a major meeting with the leaders of all the stans. and didnt invite russia.
9. china is (from reports) selling russia and uraine about the same amount of uniforms and boots, at the same time, and loading them on aircraft at the same time on the same taxiway

China will take advantage of the situation to benefit China. They want to replace the influence that Russia had in the world.

I do remember earlier report of Russian conscripts being supplied cheap paint ball helmets and vests, sure they cam from China... ha ha ha They must have ran out because reports were that the "soldiers" had to supply their own.

Ukraine is a nation bigger than France and much of it is outstandingly fertile farmland, it also contains significant portions of the Soviet industry infrastruct, including aerospace tech.
The Russians developed a sense of entitlement towards it, particularly Crimea which they have had since the time of Catherine the Great. The place is also Russia's only warm water port. They had no particular problem with Ukraine's independence as long as it was not fundamentally hostile to Russia.

Putin was one of the first to abandon the old system to join Yeltsin, and was Yeltsin's hand-picked successor. He fits the mold of what the Russians called White Russians during their civil war, the side that lost to the Reds. Most educated Russians could see the literal interpretation of Marxism the Soviets had adopted wasn't working. This guy thinks Putin is a commie, but he is like the Whites, who were essentially Czarists. Another fool who thinks authoritarianism stems purely from Marxism and who has never seriously studied Putin and Russia? I suspect so.

There is a lot of ideological rationalization going on, but it's likely this war is like most in human history. Good land equals prosperity, and prosperity equals power. Every empire has fought to cling on to what it has or take back what it had. Every single one.
