Ultimate cruising salad? Good enough for astronauts apparently.

An international team of scientists have developed a “space salad” that can keep astronauts well-nourished on future missions into deep space.

The salad consists of seven ingredients — soybeans, poppy seeds, barley, kale, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and sweet potatoes, all in carefully measured amounts — that can be grown in small enclosures on a spacecraft and fulfill the nutritional needs of astronauts on long-duration trips.

Researchers from Australia, the U.K., and the U.S. chose the ingredients based on their nutritional value, growth rate, water and space requirements, and the amount of inedible waste produced.

See, “International Scientists” all resent blockhead jock button-pushers astronauts because every one of those nerds think that they could do a better job. (If only the selection criteria had more to do with how many pulp magazines you subscribed to as a kid. Or clever - and stoichiometrically correct - puns on the deep rows of the periodic table. Etc.)
Clearly, this little ruse is to get all the current crop of launchable ballast to fail their next drug test. Thus opening up a few more spots for those who hold a Ph.D. but alas, had a few too many zits and couldn’t ever quite climb that damned rope in junior high.

Those guys are pretty much all dead. Except, somehow, for Buzz.
The current crop of RoboKids will eat any fucking thing you program them to, if it keeps them on the ladder.

(Which could be quite amusing…)

Fun fact. In zero gee you need extra fiber due to the lack of gravity. Same with long term patients on bed rest.

That salad sounds like it was designed that way

I like it (occasionally!) blanched to wilting, then julienned with a little salt & vinegar (malt or rice wine). It's a brassica: mustn't overcook it or it tastes like innertube. Prefer spinach to kale, tho. Prefer broccoli to either. I eat a shocking volume of broccoli.🥦o_O

Still a good point. Couldn't you have someone (or some thing) swing you around and around by your arms and get everything at the right end? I do it with ketchup bottles all the time. (But not in public.)
