True...
It is not exactly rock solid flight just above the crest of the highest wave and indeed, they bury the bows (all three of them, as you noted) several times.
But at the same time my INexperienced eye is impressed how "easily" they pop out of the water, without an obvious massive loss of speed. Sure, it must be a bumpy ride when you are on board, but if you remember the nose dive of the very same Thomas Coville at the start of his around the world single handed record attempt, on his old-old-old sodebo, the behavior of the two boats are night and day.

Check it out at 2:50 on video below:

@Laurent yes the boats are night and day ... that old boat had full bows that did not push through + the amas were shorter at the front than the main hull which promoted that nose dive.
The new boat is handling it well until is doesn't. They know more that me but it still looks edgy....
The combination of a gust and a big fall off the foils combined with a short wave in front is a worry but i'm sure they are throttling back at night....
At what point when the boat is angled nose down a wave do the foils not lift or even act in reverse to push further down..? Serious question if anyone knows..? Or is this not a factor.
To break records, one must take risks....
I wonder if Captain Donald Lawson will attempt this record on the ORMA...lol

The problem on Sodébo was on casing / trunk of the port foil. They do not give more details, but after arriving in Gran Canaria, the technical team which flew from France made a repair so the boat can sail back to its home port in Brittany...

Article (by Tip&Shaft, in english) about the Trophée Jules Verne, nowadays and in a short (but not that much...) futur.

I'm laughing pretty hard...

Has this been posted? A very serious group of Ultime multihulls ready for heavy weather.

The video is a few years old but does have some awesome Ultime footage (y)

The TV Quiberon (a place in Brittany) Sailing channel can be great for big Multi and IMOCA videos.

:)
