Everything is ramping up in Les Sables d'Olonne..  we even have a daily Live: well, even two- one in French, and one in English- the latter with Andi Robinson.  18.00hrs in the Uk (19.00 FR?)

The first two lives are on Youtube..

Number 1 focusses on Kojiro Shiraishi and his boat

English Live #2  focusses on Pip Hare and  Alan Roura, including a glimpse inside Alan's boat (the ex- Hugo Boss)- still think it looks like the bat cave. Thought he might at least have changed the colour...

Today's Tip & Shaft podcast is about the Vendee Arctique. My French isn't good enough to follow it, but here's a summary. Interesting (and actually not surprising) that they think its the toughest race of the season, surpassing the Route du Rhum.

*************

This 76th episode of Pos. Report is devoted to the Vendée Arctic-Les Sables d'Olonne , the start of which will be given on Sunday June 12 at 5 p.m. from the port of departure and arrival of the Vendée Globe . Our guests are three competitors among the 25 entered in this solo race reserved for Imoca : Thomas Ruyant , Romain Attanasio and Benjamin Ferré .

We begin this episode by recalling the big parade of Vendée Globe skippers, which took place last Friday: a nice moment, with "a crazy world" , as always in Les Sables d'Olonne, and also a way to meeting up with riders from the Vendée more than a year after the finish, Benjamin Ferré, rookie in Imoca, having followed him from... his balcony!

Place, then to the analysis of the first Imoca event of the season, the Guyader Bermuda 1000 Race : confirmation that the tough guys, like Jérémie Beyou , Thomas Ruyant - "disappointed" with his retirement but "in the game" - and Charlie Dalin are at the rendezvous of this start to the season, Thomas Ruyant confident that the skipper of Apivia promises to be difficult to take in the races with transition phases. And confirmation, on the side of Benjamin Ferré, who had not sailed solo since his last Mini Transat in 2019, that he took great pleasure in discovering the Imoca, rounded up by Jean Le Cam. As for Romain Attanasio, busy with PR operations between England and Portugal, he did not race but sailed a lot on the boat for a month.

Our guests then evoke the very particular course of this Arctic Vendée, with this route due north or almost, the tour of Iceland, with Greenland nearby. Everyone agrees that the 3,500-mile long event promises to be tougher than the Route du Rhum , which is supposed to be the high point of the year - "the Vendée Artcique is the very big piece of the season" , according to Thomas Ruyant, Romain Attanasio recalling that, contrary to custom, "sailors will be crossed by weather systems" .

Enough to make Benjamin Ferré cautious - very happy not to have foils! -, whose main objective is to finish the race, to "sail at my level" and to continue his apprenticeship in Imoca, his two eldest children expecting a very physical race, with a lot of sail changes... Thomas Ruyant, since winning the Transat Jacques Vabre , is now aiming for the podium and in particular his highest step: "We are not going to lie to each other, I want to finish, but in front". Romain, he keeps in mind the miles to accumulate and the need to bring the boat back from particularly inhospitable countries in case of problems. As for Benjamin Ferré, if he is also concerned by the race for the miles, he tries not to think too much about it, taking part in all the races on the Imoca circuit between now and the start of the Vendée Globe.

Our three guests conclude this exchange with an update on the progress of their projects: a new boat - Koch-Finot/Conq design - launched in early 2023 for Thomas Ruyant; developments under consideration by Romain Attanasio, who continues to take charge of the former  Malizia  ; reliability first and foremost and no foils for   Benjamin Ferré 's former SMA .

The tracker shows no wind. Does anybody know where the wind is coming from or how to get wind-arrows onto the tracker?

Yes.... look on the RH side and there is a bar with various icons to press, one of which is wind. You can also add boat labels, measure distances etc.
