Vendee Globe 2020 - Virtual Race

Apparently VR posted some kind of apology letter, saying the Jamaica race won't count, people who paid for full packs in it will get a free replacement race of category 5 or 6 later, and they're working hard to make sure the issues are all repaired before Vendee.  Which is great, but...  Still very worrisome that they launched such dramatic changes so close to Vendee with so many bugs.  I sure hope they can sort it out in time.

If I understand correctly, they intend to keep the Jamaica race open for bug work, rather than running more similar beta test races.

One thing I am finding annoying is that I am due to harden up at the western end of Cuba and have the turn programmed and the auto sail change programmed, but the predicted path is as if I was trying to go upwind with the spinnaker still up. <_<

Prior to the changes, the predicted path would reflect sail changes, if the autosails were on with enough duration for the predicted sailchange to occur.  So as long as that's your situation, they would be viewing it as a bug to fix.  Apparently there's a thread in the VR forum where users are posting bugs, which VR has indicated they're actually paying attention to and using as a to-do list.  You could have a look in there and see if your issue is already noted, and add it if it isn't.

22 days or so to fix the bugs.  I don't envy that development team for the next 3 weeks.  But it's a mess of their own making.

Nice beta game to play with. I did check position as you said, your right I was moved up the course with all programation gone. The new pop up window to choose which over lapping boats to view is good. The can’t log in bug got me eating dirt... so they fix it and or your f,,,ked in the dirt as they do.... it’s worth what we paid for it!

So is there a set of polars available anywhere for these boats in the foiling configuration?  Its locked under VIP in Virtual Regatta?

Can't see anything on Zezo relating to polars either.

By default, the options are all turned off, but you can of course turn them all on.

Specifics about how the foils impact boatspeed (as well as specifics of polish, pro winches, etc) are covered here:  http://zezo.org/forum.pl?tid=7877

Time to dump you apps you loaded and get a fresh one... a new app update just popped up as I logged in to the offshore app...Then threw me out the door to my ipad Home Screen...

I just joined as SA_ Kenny Dumas

Still wandering around North of Cuba, trying out all the buttons. Ran aground while mushroom hunting Mt Jefferson wilderness area on E bike. 1500 watt monster makes climbing hills fun. Got a few sweet Chanterelles. The devastation of Detroit from the wildfire is unreal, shocking in its capricious ferocity.

Is the site down or is there some way to reset?  All I get is the intro screen with the VR spinner, frozen. Is that the “site down “ symptom?  Sailors may die if I can’t reboot!?!?

It happens sometimes.  If it's a desktop machine, go back to VR's home page and re-enter the Offshore area.  Sometimes I find myself having to do this multiple times.  I'm not sure if rebooting helps or if it's unrelated to your machine's present status.  If you're running the app on a phone or tablet, then exit the app (entirely, not just hiding it) and re-enter, or reboot the phone or tablet.  Annoying, but...  if you just stare at the spinner, it'll go on indefinitely (assuming you've already been patient for at least 10 seconds for normal load time).

Thanks Mom. I rebooted my phone and it came back. But now the race is over and I’m stranded at sea.  My poor crew needs some virtual supplies!
Glad I got some practice miles in.

If anyone is looking to practice in the new version, and didn't do Jamaica Express (or would just like to get more practice with fewer of the original set of bugs)...  They just opened the "Bermuda Challenge", which starts 22 hours from now.  Ft. Lauderdale to Bermuda.  IMOCA.  Category 6, so inexpensive.

Thanks Mom. That’s what I saw Cal 40s;). No cheep seats all free boats fully tricked out, agood practice run just pick a color... The pushers a r giving it a Away for free now... we all know why!

Heres a new twist for late starters..

1. Boat starts at start line behind the pack. You set it up and head down the leg. OK log out.

2. Log back in, boats just left port on your heading with sails set. Just off shore

3. Hit the refresh Arrow Circles in the upper right corner... BAM your boats teleported up to the fleet same settings and sails, where ever you go next is not fast just your old settings.

4. This is a play that shows what MOM said about player side and game side being out of sink.

5. Solution: listen to Mom. And hit the refresh button first on log in?

Class 40s not Cal 40s...  Not that it really matters...  It's one-design either way.

Regarding the solution to this topic...  I don't have one.  I'm not sure how the current version of late starting operates because I don't like to start a race at all if I miss the scheduled start.  The game has what's called an "escort frigate" now.  It's generally visible, and I think if you have an awful time (such as spending a night aground early in a race) you can jump straight to the frigate, for a price in credits, at any time, by clicking on it.  (Be careful to not click on it accidentally!  And if you do, then be super careful to decline the confirmation!).  Anyway, as far as I know, late starters enter at the frigate's location.  It should be smooth and immediate, though.  What you describe sounds like a bug of the new engine's mechanics.  I guess as long as it jumps you there upon the first refresh, it won't matter in the long run.
