I spent some time living in the Alawi One Saturday morning while surfing Ala Moana bowl, thats the one next to the entrance channel. I saw a guy in a Laser teaching himself how to sail. I kept a loose eye on him, loosing track after a couple of waves. when I next located him, he was about to go backwards over the falls on an eight foot set wave. I sprinted to his boat, jumped aboard with my surfboard still attached by my leash and dragging, sheeted in and reached the sucker with all she had for the channel. made deep water just as the next wave slapped us down. the whole time the guy just looked at me with that holly shit face. we laughed, I slapped him around with a bunch of "What the Fuck Dude" and he sailed back into the marina.

I've been in and out of Al-Awai the and Waikiki YC many times... there are almost always surfers and waves breaking, out side the YC... not really any "harbor" to speak of. They're just out not always as big as in that vid, but waves and surfers always there... remember, they have 20-15kt trade winds prevailing... hot sunny and salty.
