I've seen slightly better examples of the shop bought ones than I linked to. Shaped better to trip and not tangle, and they must be cheaper than buying an anchor... I accept weight is good in these applications. There is a difference between what you might load onto a 35 footer and a 65 footer...

Previously I always used the old weighted line with a quick release knot tired in it, so I was impressed when I first saw a chap using the hook method.
Wind strength, chop and boat speed .., drift .. are the same regardless of the boats size

A heavy J is easier to control ... 3 of 4 kgs seems to handle well

Hooks and J bars will work only if you can bring the obstacle to sea level, if it is a tight mooring chain on the seabed concrete block or a heavy steel bar they will not work.

Yup

thats why you  need a few different tricks in your seamanship bag....  like  a short length of chain to run down the anchor rode

sometimes nothing works and you must dump your ground tackle with a marker bouy ... then call a diver to solve the problem

Work in progress, no ballast no roll bar, the Odin, soon be in the store in your neighborhood. Odin 10.png odin 10 fluke.jpg odin 10 toe.jpg ,

Looks good

The roll bar on anchors is troublesome
They might be if the roll bar is relatively small, they might collect weeds and other stuff, and also not all boats can accommodate them on their bow, and this is the main reason we are making a no roll bar anchor, our experience shows that roll bar anchors behave better in most seabeds.

The Viking is clearly, um, "heavily inspired" by the Mantus design. I won't support that kinda thing with a purchase and if I were in Mantus' position I'd sue the shit out of them.
What would you sue them for?

Mantus wouldn’t have a leg to stand on, bc they and Manson knocked off Rocna, who knocked off the Bügel. Nothing new under the sun

I thought Mantus had an issued patent but it turns out that it's just an application, so they've got nothing to protect. I guess it's game-on and can't wait to see how Mantus improves on Viking's latest ripoff.
