How it was done in 1969ish. Great video from simpler times centres on Folie, a Hughes 38 designed by S&S from National Yacht Club racing off Toronto on Lake Ontario.

Check out the triple wheels for rudder, trim tab, and linkage, natty crew kit, and dialogue that's well, kinda, sorta, dated-like...

Cheers!

So many questions...
Why did they pick such a small jib?
Why is there a string wound around the end of the boom?
Why did they leave the topping lift on the whole race?
Why didn’t they hoist the kite all the way?
Why didn’t they hoist the jib before they dropped the kite?
Why is there someone chilling in the pulpit during a race?
Why is there a 26’ T-bird right on the ass of a 38 footer?

Fun video! Thanks @CriticalPath

What a wonderful timepiece/film. There is clearly lots of editing and voice over recording (not a single curse word spoken?). So wonderful to see ‘how it was done’, as compared to what is done now. Some one asked when sailing gloves started being used… and now we have personal EPIRBs, laser flares, and pony-bottles. This was like watching an NHL game before helmets. Awesome.
