Viper

Yes, Rondar is still making new boats but like everywhere with COVID things have slowed down.  As Port Tack indicated there are plenty of used ones available from #76 to #315 at Used Boats  section of the Viper 640 Class website.  There’s also a section with info and price list for new boats.

I bought a Viper used beginning of this year  (Viper 131) . Great fun boat! Check to see what comes with any boat you consider. Included in mine was a propane outboard, top and bottom covers, 3 sets of sails. Lots of information on the Class site but even better to have someone walk you thru it as it took me a while to get some things figured out.

The Rondar trailers use metric tires, so check age as I ended up ordering new ones from England.

Do you race it in your area?

Regarding Rondar trailer tires.  Walmart sell a tire that fits, it is about 2mm larger, than the stock Rondar tire.  $40 or so bucks from Walmart.  Have owned 4 Viper 640's, and have thousands of trailer miles with them.  Have had three blowouts, and Walmart was always open 24 hours and had em in stock.  (yep, 1230 am broken on on I-76, got a cab to wally world and got me a tire).   I am not a Walmart shopper by any means (maybe one or two visits a year) but damn do they stock a tire that fits.

hoofhearted,   thank you for a working alternative.  I got stuck on the reference numbers.  sailhmb - not racing yet, still in practice mode to learn the boat and get a crew together. Sailing Port San Luis Obispo and couple times Santa Barbara. Sailed Saturday and it was 5 mph from the south inside and 25 mph NW on outside of breakwater. 14 mph without spinnaker, still training up for spinnaker when it is over 15 of wind.

Are Vipers still being made?  Have not seen any new ones in a few years. Any issues?
Hey Sailss,

An update from the fleet:  we have 7 new boats that are landing in Canada/USA this April/May after basically a Rondar factory shutdown from COVID/Brexit the last 2 years, and it's great to see them being built.  The class has invested in fresh tooling, and is looking foward to seeing good quality boats making their way into owner's hands.  There's another batch of boats slated to be built in the early Fall 2022--I think there are 1-2 slots still left in that group.
