Shaekel : Post 990 - wrong crew list.

This was the crew list for the combined UBox/Dongfeng team in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race where the team achieved 3rd Overall IRC & 1st Overall ORCi (I was project manager). An amazing result since we only acquired the boat (Cookson 50) 2 months before the start and only had about 2 weeks practice on the boat and the new main only arrived hours before Norths closed for Christmas

An emotional journey for the tem owner along with a great result.

But yes, Marie was on the crew.

Can't they just race around the world without all this social engineering, PC bullshit?

Next thing, VOR will want to recruit at least one non-specific gender identity crew members - so the boats will need to carry at least a blue, pink and white bucket. I won't even mention an additional requirement for the mandatory designated 'safe-space' aboard.
Safe Space on a VOR Boat - That cracks me up!
Not the first and certainly not the last time:Imoca boats have sheltered safe space where the solo sailor can get protection from wind and waves.

In the already build VOR 70's they prefer flush decks.

Since safety and comfort are high standards on VOR ships.

Why not provide the same sheltered spaces on board the VOR 70's?

Might this be the reason that the VOR isn't as popular as it was in the past

where luxury cruisers like Flyer 1 and 2 were used.

I am not saying VOR has to go back to luxury cruisers but IMOCA 60

is just a better ship at the moment.

Innovation can lead to more comfort and safety of the new VOR ships after the 2017 edition.

Perhaps a retractable doghouse that protects the crew when necessary?
are you fucking stupid - or just good at pretending to be stupid?

It's just a good idea.Answer me Duncan. Take a look at the following two pictures:

Imoca (sheltered space)

Med_VOR18271red1.jpg

Volvo ocean racer flush deck.

Which one is more safe and which one is more comfartable.

It can't be changed for the coming VOR but perhaps for the VOR after that.

Congratulations, you just proved your stupidity.

That's Puma's boat from two (maybe 3?) editions ago.

Stepping into the mine field for a moment....

A big difference (I see) between VG boats and VOR boats, beyond the crew manifest, is that there is less sail adjustment on a single hander vs a multi-crew boat. visual clues, aka looking up may be problematic if you got a solid or semi-solid roof over your head. You can also see, just by the picture that crew hangs out on the upwind side and seating would be a premium (rookie gets to sit just inside catching water spray. PErhaps a better splash guard right at the top of the front of the cockpit might help direct some of the deluge away or over the head of most the crew.

A shelter is just not practical, nor feasible on the existing VO65s, even for the race after this one. Both races are life at the extreme, but for two vast differences. On the VOR, it is in part, not being able to get out of the weather and on the VG, sleep deprivation and stress of being alone.

(and yes, I got the tongue in cheek about safe spot)

The big difference sail adjustment...wtf...try 5 tonne just for starters
5 tonne of what? Come man, if you're going to slam, at least don't make it cryptic. If what you are referring to is the added weight of a roof, everyone would have one. As I said, it is not feasible to have a "Safe Spot" on VO65s so the debate is moot.

Perhaps you got confused and meant 16 tonnes?

The 70's were seriously wicked up. They're my vote for extreme design and outright speed.
