About 48 hours from now there will be almost no wind north of the rhumbline and on the nose at that, I think going south early might be painful for now but good in the long run (which is ultimately the one that matters!).

The helicopter livestream was pretty epic IMHO, good job by VOR media team.
48?  Even 24 looks ugly.  From the sublime  to the ridiculous or perhaps intensity in the fast lane to intensity in the slow.

I’m sure it won’t be, but imagine this to be the final score of leg 1 then we would have gotten ourselves quite  a race... these 1,5 days were for sure exciting enough to firmly tune into this race . Kudos for Tienpont, but I do hope the yellow boat will catch up.

You know they are not going to Lisbon right now... Right
Yes, no matter how hard the teams are able to sail, they'll be parked east of Funchal, between 36-48 hours to round PS - in about 48 is when conditions will be right for Lisbon. GFS is a tad bit optimistic.

Interesting--tracker reverted to 20:00 positions (before MAPF's gybe). Oh well: time to lurk on the Marine traffic website :)

From VOR HQ:

We have now switched to position reports every six hours, at 0100, 0700, 1300, 1900 (all times UTC).

But the Race Experts will be keeping a close eye on the fleet and will, at times, publish intermediate position reports when there is a significant development.

When the teams get within about 24 hours of the finish off Lisbon, we'll switch back to live tracking.

That's the upside of having these "Race Experts".
And the last 24 Hours of the Leg will be Live-Tracking :)

Hope that they upload the Gibraltar Rounding on YT in better Resolution. That was a humdinger to follow :D
Well, that sucks...

Six hours is (too) loooooooooooooong, why not have 3 hours like last edition?

Marine Traffic it is...

Is there a fast way to locate the boats?
look up boats by MMSI at www.marinetraffic.com or www.vesselfinder.com

takes a while, even after registering and setting up 'fleets'. Results are dependent on the boats being in range of a receiver, which can be rare much of the time.

Can you just post screen shots, say, every 10 minutes?  Thanks.

I caught some of the kerfuffle with ST, why are they now missing "three of their most experienced" who is off and why ? Who replaced them ?
