I'm shit at comparing things, does this look about "rite" ? US $420 shipped.
(motor, drive obvs smaller/less robust, or fuck maybe it is exactly the same. Like I said, shit at comparing things)

That's a portable version of the same thing (handle and the arm is short). To make sails you will want the arm as long as possible because you will be stuffing fabric through the hole.

Worth adding the flywheel/ handwheel (also can buy from sailrite). And as mentioned by Thom, that's the 7" version same as sailrite LSZ but since the "clones" are available "long arm" = 9in, agree it's worth going that route.

Being cheap, I put my own lever handle on the wheel for those times you have to grunt the needle through webbing and a bunch of layers. Basically drill two holes in the retaining screw and put two pegs matching the holes on the lever...instant leverage for a couple bucks.

Sorry guys, time for some more stupid questions.

There's a complete 29'er skiff for sale atm, pretty cheap. Inc - 3 sets of flogged out sails.
apart from the aesthetics of running such horrible looking sails - are there any major issues running a skiff rig like this on a ply outrigger? ( after a sanity check please )

- The three piece mast ticks all the boxes - can break it down to fit in a Cessna (no choice on this)... <- This is what has me looking at this as an option

- Sail area adds up to the wa'apa design brief

- I'm happy to beef up the hull if required - to stop banannaring from expected 29er required rig tension, I can hang the hull and sandbag test it for deflection (?) The hull is fully enclosed - she's not a canoe. She's stiffer than a priest at choir practice

- 4oz Dacron practice sails are available off the shelf for the 29er- almost at a reasonable price

- it also comes with both alloy and glass rudders and daggerboards, would save a bit of work if they can also be repurposed.

Am I miles off here, is this even a remotely viable option?

I was also looking for 2nd hand Weta masts and sails - could not find anything,
(the two piece mast sections are a bit long for shipping though). In my head the Weta rig option is the best.

Apologies, cheers and thanks

We used a 16' skiff rig on a trailer sailer, it went well enough. It may work.
The practice sails will be completely the wrong cut for what you are doing though, and it is pretty unlikely you will be able to carry enough rig tension to get the prebend into the mast to even slightly match the main. An old tasar rig would probably be a better choice. Less rig tension, 2 piece mast, rotating rig (rather than swept back spreaders) means shroud location is more forgiving. There are a lot of old tasars under sheds in Queensland, put the word out you are looking and you should be able to get the bits you need.
Using a rudder blade, box and Tiller will save you quite a bit of mucking about in your build, take the gudgeons and pintles too.
