Sixteen Year-Old FL Student Suspended For Disarming Gunman & Saving Students

A sixteen year-old Florida student was suspended this week after disarming a gunmen on a school bus and saving fellow students.

It was against school rules.

The Blaze reported:

A Florida high school student wrestled a loaded gun away from another teen on the bus ride home this week and was slapped with a suspension in return.
The 16-year-old Cypress Lake High student in Fort Myers, Fla.

http://www.fox4now.com/news/local/194396721.html there was “no doubt” he saved a life after grappling for the loaded .22 caliber revolver being aimed point-blank at another student on Tuesday.
“I think he was really going to shoot him right then and there,” said the suspended student, not identified by WFTX because of safety concerns. “Not taking no pity.”
The student said the suspect, a football player, threatened to shoot a teammate because he had been arguing with his friend.
Authorities
http://www.fox4now.com/news/local/194396721.htmlconfirmed to WFTX
http://www.fox4now.com/news/local/194396721.html the weapon was indeed loaded, and the arrest report stated the suspect,

That’s when, the teen told the station, he and two others tackled the suspect and wrestled the gun away. The next day, all three were suspended.
“How they going to suspend me for doing the right thing?” he asked.
The school’s referral slip said he was given an “emergency suspension” for being involved in an “incident” with a weapon.
Schools have established action plans.

For some schools, anytime a student is shot or involved with guns the school has their set action plans to protect the students involved that are not taken into custody. Some of them issue suspensions not to punish some students but to protect them from reprisals until they can figure out the depth of it all.

Their first responsibility is to get the students involved away from possible reprisals, and revenge. After they can settle everything down again then they sort through the blame. I am sure that in this case the suspension wouldn't be held against the student, it's for his safety.

So after two hundred-plus years of being a great country, we've now decided to cave in to pussydom? Gawd damn, but it's days like this that I'm glad I won't be around in another 30 years. And quite honestly? I'm not so sure that the next 3 years are gonna be worth hanging for either.

Meeeee-oooooow........
not me. I want to be around while it goes bad. Ill watch it all with a smile. this country deserves, through its own political choices, whats coming to it. Im sure in 50 years when all of our cities resemble detroit, and theres only a few small enclaves of civility left, it will be the lone republican in the senates fault. his and BBBOOOOSSSHHH'S fault.

Yeah, I think the important point here is "The student said the suspect, a football player,..."

Never, ever challenge the quarterback. They be the sacred cows of middle America :p

On a more serious note, mikewof seems to have hit the nail on the head given:

The student, who Fox 4 has agreed not to identify and distort his voice because he fears for his safety, says there's "no doubt" he saved a life by disarming the gunman. And for that he was suspended for three days.
Ignoring the hype around the issue, the guy took on somebody who proved he will to put a gun at another student's head. If he was not suspended, it would be known to everyone (including the gun-wielding assailant) where he is between the hours of 9am-3pm (or whatever hours they keep at his school).

Seems to me when someone has been threatened with a deadly weapon, and a .22 through the eye will kill, it's prudent to minimise the threat until things cool down. Pussified or not, it is the legally responsible thing to do in a country known to sue for anything and everything.

The principal is a dolt. She and my wife had a brief run in when they were at the same school. The soon to be principal was transferred to the school in the story.
