Tragic.
...
The Sumner County Sheriff's Office says a man died over the weekend after his dog stepped on a rifle, causing the firearm to discharge.

The incident happened at around 9:40 a.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of 80th Street, north-northeast of Geuda Springs. The sheriff's office said the man was sitting in the front passenger seat of his pickup and he had hunting gear and a rifle in the backseat.

"A canine belonging to the owner of the pickup stepped on the rifle causing the weapon to discharge," the sheriff's office said. "The fired round struck the passenger who died of his injuries on scene."

The man's name has not been released.

GUN VIOLENCE STATISTICS

Every day, on average, 316 people in America are shot in murders, assaults, suicides and suicide attempts, unintentional shootings, and police intervention.
Mostly suicides and our suicide rate is pretty unremarkable.

Additionally, the "common sense" solution most sought, banning battlefield .22's, seems pretty unrelated to suicide prevention, especially considering the suicide rate in Japan.

Florida toddler shoots, kills himself with parents' gun

A Florida toddler has died after deputies said he found a handgun in his parent’s nightstand and shot and killed himself.

Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies said the boy found the nine-millimeter firearm in the nightstand on Wednesday night.

the parents reportedly kept the firearm there after their lock box stopped working.

The Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the parents were out grocery shopping at the time of the incident.

NBC News: Florida 3-year-old dies after shooting himself with a handgun, officials say

The father, a Florida state corrections officer, told deputies that his firearms were normally kept in a safe in the bedroom, but the safe's electronic lock function had stopped working and he instead placed one on top of the fridge and the other in his nightstand.

Terrible translation on my part. Should have said the welfare state, i guess.

The level of security garanteed by society to it's members in terms of healthcare, unemployment benefits, workers rights, etc.

What, you want the the government... which supposed to be We The People; or as a famous President once said, "of the people, by the people, for the people"... to actually govern in such a fashion that benefits the majority of the actual people??

This thread is about banning battlefield .22's in response to suicides.

Wrong, Dogballs. Read the thread title. And read the first post.

Total annual cost of gun violence: $229 billion, 33,000 deaths and 80,000 injuries ...

Mother Jones spent 6 months calculating the total cost of gun violence in America. http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2015/04/true-cost-of-gun-violence-in-america

No one should have to surrender or have to be threatened with the loss of their guns. Just as people who do not own guns should have to bare the cost of guns used improperly. That $229 billion should be charged directly to the people responsible for creating the cost, not to those who do nothing to create it.

INTENTIONAL FALSEHOOD ALERT
You hijacked this thread and railroaded it into a silly meme--just one of your many propaganda creations.

Mostly suicides and our suicide rate is pretty unremarkable.*
*Research by Tom Dogballs Ray

After the hijacking, we find you are wrong again. 25% of our suicides are now veterans. Teen suicide has spiked 60% in ten years. Furthermore, empirical science says that the number one imperative in suicide prevention is to get guns out of homes.

...especially considering the suicide rate in Japan.*
*More piss-poor research by Tom Dogballs Ray

Wrong a third time, intentionally. This thread is notable in that it features repetitious, willfully ignorant, and intentional false equivalence, from a smart person: the comparison of Japanese and American suicides.
