Appears to be a mold, and yes, from a sailboat, but what is the process that we see here? And who do you think is doing it?

5 axis milling...........been around for about 25 yrs now......unusual to mill a mold directly, but you can get (up to) 5 parts or so from a milled mold (depending on complexity)

It looks like a big router but it looks like its using its probe in this shot, so acting like a CMM or coordinate measuring machine.  I thought it was a pure CMM at first as it's quite lightweight looking, but there seems to be foam powder all over the Z-axis.

CNC plug for making the female mold.

Old builders do it with wood, compounds sanding and lots of traditional techniques.

Others get it sorted and hand plug manufacturing to specialist facility. Depending on how big the mold, you're looking at a bunch of options or one or two manufacturers per continent.

Gotta love everything done by CNC partially eliminates human error , creates accuracy, creates perfect. Just compare a nibral moulded prop with a CNC prop. One of many examples

Have to concur, Looks like they have a feeler tip to zero out the CNC mill to coordinate the mill to the piece (the deck upside down) to continue being milled accurately after a tooling change or after possibly repositioning the deck (flipped it?). Hopefully its all under .0100" (.25mm) ?
