Directors cut launch video...

JESUS CHRIST!!! You should have placed a trigger warning!

What a punch in the gut! Terrifying! I stopped watching at the first minute mark. I will watch it later. And I'll probably read the thread first.

Cool boat, thanks for the video! :)

Damn, what a waste of time, money and human energy just to produce something that ugly.

It's not even cool ugly like an old hay scow or a botter - it's just butt ugly.

Well, good colour, so there's that I guess.

Kind of refreshing that Barry & co have managed to produce videos of 4 years of boatbuilding in 4 episodes in this last month.

No grifting, just throwing it out there on youtube, concise and compact.

Interesting factoid, the number of views went from dozens to thousands once the episodes were posted on SA.

Spoiler alert; the first set of battens for the engineered junk rig were too soft ... WAG indeed.

It's not a particularly long thread.

The executive summary:

-Jim Antrim designed a 42 foot sailboat to Barry Spaniers design brief.

- Berkeley Marine Center built the hull, deck & keel, installed an electric motor and painted the boat.

- Barry did a LOT of fairing, has been fitting out the interior, and has been assembling the spars, sails, and running rigging.

thats really cool, but he could do a better work with the design

I like the concept. But, the reality is a wee bit disappointing. Escpecially that the visibility from the helm looks to be pretty poor.

I like the hull and am looking forward to seeing more videos of it in strong breeze and larger seas.. I very much like pilothouse power boats, not a fan of sailboats with the same configuration. Would prefer a different rig on this as well but I understand why this one was chosen, one halyard, one sheet, there is beauty to simplicity.

It would be interesting to see more scow'ish shaped production boats. Most boats will never blue water cruise, few will sail in heavy air, so what's the point in every boat having a shape for that design brief? I'm not advocating for aluminum pontoon hulls, but this boat is a nice compromise to satisfy a unique design need.

We went out on our second trial sail with 4 - 10 knots of wind, we got her up to 6 knots.

We took her upwind with the dagger board down, then sailed downwind all the way home.

As Jim Antrim says, "Rosie don't roll!"
