the Farr 36 OD fleet took off so well, it's a great idea to build another boat in that size/price range; timing is great too. do they need another investor?
look to see one in PHRF A on a racecourse near you
Good, we need someone to race our Farr 36 OD against in PHRF A....

Sick boat. Funky gunnel wings kick in near the shrouds, aft to the transom, I guess for a few extra inches of righting moment from the crew? Haven't seen that before, other than Fay and Disney eh?

I think if I remember right the trial certs came back at around 1.26 in IRC.
That's pretty steep, They will have to sail very well to beat that rating in a decent fleet. For reference Wedgetail is 1.209, Farr 40 OD is 1.189.

Does look very horny though!

Abbo,

Out.

from the website, it seems like the goal is primarily one-design sailing.

might be hard to get much action beyond Argentina, but at that price, they have a good shot at a nice local fleet.

It is a nice looking boat, but it doesn't seem that offshore sailing was an important part of the design brief - can you imagine a wave washing over that deck...?
Doesn't look any wetter than TP52 or VO60.
TP 52's don't race offshore anymore (at least the new ones - are solely built for round the cans) - the ones converted to offshore racing have (mostly) added some sort of protection at the forward end of the cockpit

Volvo boats are very wet ( and i firmly believe is actually hampers their performance in nasty conditions as crew gets worn out at record pace) - Most open boats 40, 50, 60 have some massive hard dodgers built into the design
*COUGH*

Sorry, I'm calling bullshit. The single handers have large cabin tops because they have no crew!! Can you imagine 10 or 15 blokes scrambling around one of those huge monstrosities? Flush deck or small cabin top makes it much easier for the crew to get around and sheet the jibs in nice and tight. It's nice to have a bit of a cabin offshore but certainly not necessary.

And TP52's dont go offshore? bollocks. The last Worlds had two offshore races. Still in the med I know but a short chop will always throw more water over the deck than ocean swell. Have a look at the entry list for the hobart this year.... 5 or 6 TP52's. None of the Australian boats have had cabin mods, mostly just bowsprits and a few extra ring frames for Hobart. If you have a look at the med cup fleet this year the biggest influence on cabin top was structural.... have a look at Artemis.... their cabin runs all the way to the bow giving them a lot more structural strength for a tiny weight penalty. That allowed them to go much higher on the rig loads than anyone else....

Cabin tops make bugger all difference to crew saftey offshore. 90% of the time you are on the rail, the rest is in the cockpit or down below trying to sleep. Nice deep cockpits are what keeps the punters onboard.... which the S40 has definitely got. I'd take one offshore in a heartbeat!

Abbo,

Out.

The boat was design to race in class as well as in a future in the U.S., in IRC.

I am the owner of the second boat "patagonia", due out next week.

We created the boat for around the cans races both inshore as well as offshore.

We race the boats typically in the southern ocean, where in January is the Rolex Cup in Punta del Este, by the way a great event.

During the year is basically in Buenos Aires, and in July we race in Brazil, also in the Rolex Cup of Ilhabela.

The S40 is a very light boat (4200Kg) where 1800Kg is in the bulb.

All asym. are very large (180Sq meters) making very fast runs.

The idea behind the boat, was that we wanted something very fast and fun, we negotiated prices alot to make the boat easily affordable (for someone looking for a 36+ foot boat).

The boat in Argentina runs for Aprox. US$ 270K from the shipyard, including 30Hp volvo engine, and carbon mast and PBO rigging.it included everything except sails and instruments. I believe there is almost no duties to get the boat to the US, just the freight.

It is constructed by Mboats in Buenos Aires.

Just to make things clear I do not sell the boat, nor make money on it, we (Me and Cusi, the first boat out) just created the class to have fun, and we hired the design from Javier Soto, and made the design available for future members of the class.

If you want more info email me at [email protected]

With a rating of 1.26, it level rates roughly with a Rogers 46 and is surely going to struggle to keep near a Tp52 on 1.330 roughly.

It is a OD of course!!

Gorgeous however and looks quite Millsy!!

How much??

Are there any polars available for this boat? The SA/D looks middle of the road at best.

Here some pic with the prel. polar

I think it is a Jason Ker design, the 11.3, with some modifications in the direction of the new design he is coming out with, teh 11.5
