what keel is it?

That keel from Mars came out beautifully. Too bad the boat it went on has never been launched 7 years later!

That explains the ugliness of the fillets at the root and lack of dillet on the bulb. You want the fillets to have a steep leading and trailing angle.

And to reduce interference drag, you locally reduce the volume of the bulb where the keel joins it. This also helps reduce the VCG of the bulb.

Guessing that the top of the keel is used as a bilge sump, so the volume is bumped up there.  But yes for hydro, you'd want a sharp leading edge at the hull and some short distance down and steeper angle to reduce the root vortex.

An annoying trait of the flatter and shallower bottom canoe hulls at sea for any distance when heeled usually means there will be water over the floorboards.  Sucks when the nav station is to leeward and you got your feet in water and spend a lot of time having to sponge it out.

that does sound annoying. but perhaps symptomatic of a boat without a sump?

my notion of a canoe hull, perhaps mistaken?

and this would be, just about half a canoe.

Well ya, canoe colloquially meaning flat bottom in section, albeit with the stern chopped off, vs a more traditional v shape section.

In fact, they just did a very bad design. They completely forgot the price issue. Have they been paid for that design, or they just draw pixels for free  ?
WFT are you talking about? Who said anything about price? Do you just write these letters for free?

Frankly this thread has dragged on for so long now that I at times have mistaken it for the original one.
lol. perhaps we should we create yet another for the rig? at least, in terms of the structure of the boat, perhaps the loads of the spar and standing rigging at least as important than the appendage dangling beneath. in theory, one of the attributes of a Seascape is its stiffness. And its my understanding that the rigging tension is quite high in a boat like this.

One of the builder clearly state one of the reasons for this thread keel shape.

The keel you have shown picture has NOT been built. What you call "beautiful", in fact, has interested  NOBODY. No one has been willing to pay what cost to be built.

I just call such design (where every one blah blah blah, but no one actually buys the real thing with real money) a very bad design.

Here is my 'beautiful' keel from Mars Metal so just let your rant go! Pretty sure it was paid for and is attached firmly to the boat.

That's a terrible design. The 2x4's  will almost certainly create a lot of drag and unnecessary wetted surface area.
