so umm... 38 pages in... Rule 69, dirty or cool? can you discuss Rule 69 in front of your mother or does it stay inside the oak-doored halls of US Ailing and Whirled Sailing? Will you get an HR call if you discuss Rule 69 at work? Has anyone ever made Rule 69 work or is it just a mythological youtube thing?

Doesn't have me feeling sorry for Lioness. Looks pretty accurate. What's with all the pearl clutching at tone all of a sudden
Because tone does matter. @a8b is a new flame-throwing troll who has given us no new ideas or content, no hint of humor, nothing to suggest a real person (much less a sailor) is behind the avatar. I don't want him on my side of an argument and I'd wager that he's not wanted on any side.

Given the the state of the world, who wants to read posts on an internet forum that are just purely a negative stream of attack, lacking any humanity whatever, spewed out in a turrets-like manner?

When you wrote that bit about the biggest problem that surgeons have - not being told to STFU enough - that was funny enough to make me laugh out loud. It had the ring of truth, and was funnier still because a lawyer had written it. I was entertained. Whether we are posting to agree or disagree, I'd like to believe that I'm engaging mostly with "real people" who supply some of their own thoughts, personal anecdotes, or humor - as opposed to useless trolls.

A8b did not ask for you to be on his side of an argument, and whether you want him on your side isn't relevant to anything.

It's nice to wish for a different world, but in this world, negative stream of attack sure does get the clicks.

I hear you, and your perspective indicates we are quite alike in this, at least, but our definition of trolls is quite different.

Yeah, but that's what Roger Ailes and Rupert said, and look at the world it's brought us. :ROFLMAO:

The OP's case is a classic example- He turned over a table and made an ass of himself in public due to years watching negative outrage programming on Fox News.

Never mind that Rupert The Big Greedy Foreigner owns Fox and personally can't even stand Donald Trump. Held his nose and made Trump the Fox man 'cuz it sure got the clicks. $$$$$$

The way I see it, we shouldn't lower ourselves to being one-dimensional negative trolls for the clicks that others profit from. Have fun, keep the pokes at least semi-good-natured, get a laugh now and then.

The all-negative troll attacks make the world situation worse not better. They are doing Putin's work. Their effect is to dehumanize the adversary. That's the stuff of real wars, and not to be used on countrymen.

WTF? We Aussies call each other cunts all the time with no offense taken.
I’m not talking about calling each other cunts, cunt. You, for example, come up with some clever shit now and then. Sometimes make me laugh even though I don’t like the position you’ve taken. A laugh is good content.

I’m talking about the trolls who appear on threads just to spew their negative bullshit , usually with the writing style of a 14-year-old.

And Snags, maybe I should have said fellow sailors.

They looked at what happened to Nixon and thought that he never would have been impeached if they had a news station that would tell the lies and propaganda that would keep a guilty and imperiled president from being removed.

And they were right.

When you tell the lies that keep power in power, power pays.

So, you are not entertained?

If your real, actual, criteria is 'entertainment', how do you not hold the other posters to the same perverse standard?
Not once, prior, have you called out the Trumptards for their lack of enjoyable tom foolery or merrymaking.

Or, is it not actually the regalement?

If you would like I can share several sources that point how the only way for a democracy sliding into authoritarianism is to strongly rebuke the fascists. Not that I am doing that. I just have an itch to scratch.

Says you.
They are doing Putin's work.
I call bullshit.
Their effect is to dehumanize the adversary. That's the stuff of real wars, and not to be used on countrymen.
The poor examples of humanity out themselves for their anti human behavior and actions.
Pointing that out does not dehumanize them. Their anti-human behavior does.

perhaps each of you should try walking in Shubrook’s shoes.

Set up a table, yell and cuss about your frustrations, flip the table, yell some more, then post here about your experience.
Pics would be a nice accompaniment

If I didn’t have to rig up right now for the wednesdsy races I would set up a table right now.

Says you.

There is some good evidence to back this up.
this paper for example

But even without a study to back it up, occams razor and most peoples real world experience would suggest that if your starting point is to tell someone that they are an idiot, your are unlikely to persuade them to change their behavior or their opinion.
In this thread do you feel that your comments have made anyonne chnage their opinion?

I hear ya, but that's false equivalency. @a8b's on-line persona is rude, crude, and socially unacceptable but correct.
He is no more correct than @shubrook

If you cut through the incoherent clutter and childish language, his analysis is preposterous, misleading and draws many wrong conclusions for lessons we could have learnt from this pandemic.
