I salute your ridicule, and so long as you remind me, I will also celebrate with a Cuba Libre on the 9th of October!

The CIA are a necessary evil in these modern times, but they also have many shameful histories that have been buried forever.

Hokay, Billy. It's nearly that time of the year, the anniversary of the heart-throb of the Left, Che Guevara, being sent to his just reward. Got your rum, coke and lime ready?

Cuba Libre! Death to (Raul) Castro!

I don’t know…….in 1970 I qualified expert with the M1911…….can’t say anything about todays versions but if I could shoot well enough with the sloppy old pistols they hand you at the range for quals……it can’t be too bad, especially if a frigging high school kid like me (graduated in June, turned 18 in Nov, enlisted in Jan) can hit the broad side of a barn with it.

I had brief training on one many years ago, I have no opinion. I posted this because of the overall gun owners opinions and running smack against whatever they don’t own. Nothing wrong with the old design but the times have made great improvements in many modern semi automatic pistols

I’ll have to defer to that observation. My experience is limited to the m1911 50+ years ago and my Glock 23 Gen 4 for the past year+. Not exactly a qualified opinion….🤷‍♂️🤣

I thought the G23 handled very nice but it’s only a .40 cal and although my first 20 or 30 rounds were pretty spread out, after that I guess I kinda remembered and the subsequent 30 or so were grouped much better.…..not anything anyone would call “expert” though. 🤣 I did find the recoil pretty light compared to what I was expecting and found it was easy to get it back on target quickly. It is a little odd to figure out the sight picture now that I wear glasses……

Have you gone with a RDS yet, this thread triggered the accessorize addiction, I sent the G48 slide for cutting and have H507K waiting to try… yeah old eyes are a pain in the ass

Oi. I’ll be watching your progress intently.

My slide hasn’t gone in yet: [email protected] went to a very bad place. (Work - Life balance… Yeah, right. The Company thinks if they get half of ever day, that’s balanced.) Then this thing called… Vacation?… that Charlotte insisted upon.

My vendor also has a service for installing and truing the sight. I now think I’ll take them up on that.

Thanks and best o’ luck!

My guy was $ 130 shipping- cut and Cerakote
I can’t wait to compare the 48 with and the 43x without RDS , I am very comfortable with traditional sight pictures of iron sights, it’s just the old eyes thing.

Don't draw a conclusion too quickly, I highly suggest some professional training from someone who knows how to shoot a pistol with a dot. If that isn't an option then here are some great drills to run. You have to start forcing your mind to target focus and not focus on the gun, that is the most difficult part of the transition. The following drills will help.

1. Take a piece of painters tape and place it over the front of the red dot optic, this will force you to superimpose the image and keep both eyes open to make hits. Don't shoot at just 5 yards, practice at 10/15/25 yards. If you can make reliable hits at those distances then you will have zero issue up close.

2. (Take the tape off now) Practice drawing from holster and finding the dot for 20 rounds, after each shot find the sight picture one more time and begin paying attention to the motion of the dot under recoil.

3. (You need a buddy for this one) Due to the dot having a shorter sight radius (the area between the emitter and the front lens) small movements in the gun will make it seem like the dot is bouncing all over. You have to learn to trust the dot and shoot through the wiggle. If you are focusing on the dot you will notice it even more and usually when someone complains that the dot is moving too much it means they are not target focusing. Anyways, the drill is to stand at 10 yards with a small target of some type. A piece of paper folded in half and stapled to the target works well. You sight in on the target and go ahead and stage the trigger like you are ready to shoot. Have your buddy stand behind you and randomly say "fire" on the command you fire one round. This drill is to build trust in the wiggle and to see that you will still get hits even if you don't take time to center the dot and fix everything before you fire.

4. The last drill is to take a target and choose your favorite song lyrics, write the chorus of the song on the target with a sharpie. Randomly through the writing place large black dots. Then start reading the song off, when you get to a dot fire a round into it while continuing to read, your pace of reading should not be slowed down. Once again this is building target focus.

Anyways, I highly recommend training, but if you can't those are some great drills.
