Aaaahhhh... It was a good day at derange.

I think I've finally tamed the light-weight build that was giving me such fits with accuracy. I grunted up the barrel-nut to 80 ft/lbs and made sure the gas tube and forearm were ricky-tick. The scopes' bolt torques were reconfirmed, and we were off to the range.

First shot touched the very bottom of the bullseye, the next 4 clustered around it, all 5 could have been covered with a nickel... well, maybe a quarter (I had neither ;) ). Cold barrel, craptastic blaster ammo, improvised rest, and a hardly match-friendly reticle; I'm gonna call that a win!

So, I assume South Florida is safe from these critters for the rest of the year?

I wound never injure, nor advocate injuring a cat, or dog, or most any other domesticated animule! I do feel it should be Open Season on those that do, and on Graffiti Artists!

The cats are completely safe here, except for the drop iguanas.

I do keep a suppressed dog balls by the back door in case I catch that effin' armadillo out in the open again.

Bought a new Savage .22 single shot, bolt action rifle in American flag camo to introduce the next generation to shooting. We considered using the Ruger 10-22 but don't really want to get them into weapons of war just yet and a single shot is lighter and just better for beginners.

My wife was sighting it in this morning.

There are a bunch of variants. My wife was looking into them yesterday and found that they made one that shoots .17HMR. Want. No longer made but I told her to look for a used one.
Unfortunately, the Ruger you want is very rare and the stuff of collectors. The .17 and its sister 10/22 Magnum had problems, as the blowback action wasn't really suited for the relatively powerful and long cartridges. There were case ruptures and FTFs, and Ruger quickly pulled them from production. Savage also had problems with their .17 and Magnum autoloaders. Shame, as the .17 is a laser beam.

Your best bet is a bolter: Ruger, Savage or CZ. Or.... a Winchester 9417 (out of production and spendy) or Henry lever actions.

Grandparenting: You're doing it right!

How are you going to handle that monster to the right of the targets? Ye Gawds, that looks dangerous just lying there.

That's discussed over in the curricane season thread. It landed in the same spot in Charlie.

I got the neighbor boy to cut it back in basically the same places as we cut it after Charlie.

Now I have two different heavy equipment plans to right it again. One or the other should come to pass in the next week or so. There will be pics.

My big tree is still on the ground but maybe this will be the week.

Meanwhile, I'm really enjoying the little .22 that was supposed to be for kids.

I let my grandson shoot my .17HMR so I get to shoot it.

Nuthin' better than dog balls for cheap recoil therapy. Dug out the Winchester 9422 Lever and spent an enjoyable hour sniping reeds on the far side of the pond.

Good luck with ol' man oak.

Looks pretty nice! A bit pricy, but it sound like its well made. A nice thing with the large .357’s is that when you shoot .38 Specials, there is very little recoil!

So…….while not a gun aficionado I have always liked the aesthetic of the 357 Colt Python with the 6”barrel. Well, the place I got my Glock and Mossey has them and they’re Cali approved.

Is it any good?
The Python is very good, the classiest .357 out there.

Beautiful revolver!

This video is a pretty good discussion of the new Python:

I follow the Honest Outlaw on YouTube, as he seems to have a very level head when reviewing and discussing firearms. PB, this vid is definitely worth your time. At the 13:35 mark, he identifies what you should be looking for to ensure you've got the latest and best manufacturing run.

The Python is definitely an iconic, desirable gun. I continuously kick myself for passing on a fantastic deal for a new, original Colt Python Elite from a gun shop having cash flow problems. (~$780?, many decades ago.) Oil well, I was young and stupid(er). You do have other choices though; the S&W 686 and the Ruger GP100 and GP100 Match Champion, all are great guns and a bit more affordable.

But, mien Gott, if you want the Python, GET IT! I've always deeply regretted the guns I didn't buy. So much more than the few guns that I shouldn't have. ;)
