I have no idea how fast we were going odds are most anybody who’s ever sailed a Bigger J boat has gone faster but

while playing on a J-22 in a north west breeze out in front of Southern Yacht Club we rode planing with the chute up on the face of a huge roller for so long it took two hours to get back to me n front of the club.

we knew we were going too damned far but the ride was just perfect

the next day the wind was gone and it didnt return  until the worlds were over

maybe it was 1990? I really don’t know for certain but it was between 1988 and 1994

25 knots J120 Jalfrezi. Return leg AZAB. 2003. Triple reefed main, half rolled poled out jib. Huge steep waves. 45 knots. Terrifying. Lucky to survive . Hope never to do that again.

Did 13.75 on the J35. Flat water, 1-1/2 oz chute, 27 knots of wind. We were very stable and never wiped out. Could not catch the C&C 44 ahead of us.

Another time I hit 14 knots sailing alone across the Straits of Juan Dr Fuca running with just a #3 jib. Blowing about 40 knots.

Only about 12 knots in this picture.

Sustained 16s on a J/29 coming home from Neah Bay, Swiftsure race, circa 2003.

Probably went faster than that on the J/109 I sailed on for a few years, but it wasn't as sketchy.

Our velocitek said 26.1 kts after a PHRF regatta in a J/70, but it was probably the mast swingind super quickly during one of our many broaches.

12.5 on a J/29 FROB. The wind picked up on the last leg of the last race of the last regatta, so we figured, why not? Beaming, we flew past a J/35 that opted to keep their jib, crossed the finish, and then the kite blew up.

21kts personally (full main & poled out storm jib)...but the team went on to do 24kts in a 2 handed delivery from Sydney to Melbourne in Bass Strait aboard Moonspinner (J133)

2020 Hook Race.  Saturday afternoon.  Outflow from storms.  Blowing 30-40 kts.  Doing steady 12-13 knots boat speed and touching higher.  Saw 16.1 under main only.  J92 Runaway

is that a 92 or a 92s?
It’s a 92. Same boat DCBSheb was referring too (he’s one of the owners, I’m a happy helper monkey). It was a wild ride!  The whole thing starts vibrating when you get up on a step.
