Here she is in 2013 ripping along at 9.3 knots, pacing with a J92 just out of the frame

Yea, small boat on a “C” course, no doubt....

Unless you're on a 65 footer & the bloody thing is still crossing your stern every couple of hours nearly 3 days into a light downhill Mooloolaba!
Yep... this all started back in Sydney and the legend was born..... the boat was ahead of it's time then and pushed very hard as an offshore sports boat which was done but not quite like the cone...

From memory @TUBBY, wasn't the first day / night a half decent Southerly or am I thinking of another race..,.?

You expect someone my age to remember something like that!  Yeah I think we did get a bit of good stuff for a while,  but don't remember seeing the cone then,   (she may well have been in front).  Later in the lighter stuff we were running much deeper angles & she would appear over one horizon, cross our stern,  disappear over the other horizon for an hour or so,  then repeat the exercise from the other direction,  this continued long enough for one of our crew to try to work out if we had enough spare sheets to reach them with a bucket of beers on a cross.  He was persuaded it was nota good idea both because we didn't want them coming closer,  and as it was a slow race we were worried already about our beer supply.
