Update on US55 Stars and Stripes

A chance to contribute to its restoration

https://americasmostfamousyacht.com/

Also, of note, The New York Harbor Sailing foundation offers sails on US42 and US46 where you can take part in the action - a per-sail contribution is required. Both boats are active during the season sailing in the Northeast US.

OK reviewed the site.

WHO is the driver? Is this a 501c3?

There's no background on the site to understand motivations of the leadership.

Theres a shit ton of disused obsolete mostly carbon fibre constructed AC boats and components that can’t be effectively recycled.
All in all a pretty sad environmental indictment of the AC in general.
Pete and Blair are keen to bang the environmental drum maybe they should turn their attention to matters closer to home.

For anybody that doesn't read the SA Forum or the (dread) FP,
Charley Morgan passed last Friday.

not an expert at all, but the carbon fibre end product you see is carbon fibre + cured resins. because the bond is so strong, it makes separating them impractical.

kind of like reversing a scrambled egg to quote the idiom.
I guess a solution would be to repurpose the shredded material into something else. There's gotta be something that can be done.

Out of curiosity, how many here know there is a replica of the original America in the wild, sailing I believe on the US NE coast? I was talking recently to someone who was amazed none of us had heard of it. I realise it may be a biased sample here.

I have sailed the one that was based for years in San Diego, it may still be there. Was fun to steer.

Thanks. Looks a nicer place to be than an AC 75.

Apparently there have been three replicas. A 1967 left coast one, since broken up. A 1995 one, previously in San Diego, now east coast. Third a European affair.
