Thanks, in fact I'd already read that. It confirms there have been 3 replicas. The latest (1995 build) sometimes does whale watching in SD but also leads a more adventurous life:

Elsewhere on SA is a personal photograph by a Connecticut sailor showing America slipping down a river that looks a lot more New England than SoCal and was confirmed as such by the photographer. It had a 2023 timestamp but possibly that misled me, it seems more likely it may have been 2016. I am not going to link it since it seems unfair to draw him into an argument here.

Thanks, that's the 1967 build, described by Troy Sears in the Hamish Ross piece as broken up. Not entirely broken up, then. Somebody has thrown a lot of money into this rebuild, do we know who?

She was sold by auction 2018 in Italy and a cryptic post on the Wooden Boat Forum shows a couple of shots of the rebuild taking place maybe others know more as a project of this size does not usually evade the public eye.

Perhaps his issue being that he is concentrating on American sailors, and the USA hasn't produced any in that time.
I don't mean that pejoratively, but USA performance at the Olympics has been poor, no greats, and at the AC there have been a lot of imported sailors representing them

Even if we, the US, had won more medals in the last 20 years, it wouldn’t really make a difference in terms of a hero. Olympic sailing is simply not as important to the general sailing audience in the US as it is elsewhere. That said, US Failing has been abjectly awful in doing any promotion for those who have won medals. Only time they really do that is when they can use it was press release noise to support some sponsor. It’s not consistent, at all.

Sure, it would have been better if Americans actually sailed in the America’s Cup for America.

Interesting that Jobson thinks Cayard is the past, when in fact he’s still winning major Star regattas, and making it look easy. He’s also running the Olympic team.

Jobson was a VP and then President of US Failing, along with being a relative media mogul (in sailing terms) so if anyone had the ability to set a course correction 10+ years ago, it was him.

You don't happen to know Kenyon Kellogg do you? He would have been up there with you! The day I came aboard in 2018 the boat was very smooth running from a "no prior experience" on a 12 guy. Only issue we encountered really was the vang track ripping out from the deck and having to ease on the tension maneuvering. I'm sure it was looked at between then and now. Incredible experience.
