Swartswood was the third stop this year for the SANJL (Sailing Association of North Jersey Lakes) series. I regularly sailed the SANJL regattas when I lived in NY (1989 to 2007) and sailed at Swartswood at least once. That's almost exactly where I took the picture.
Fascinating place. Elevation 1.800 meters. Thermal wind of 25+ knot out on the lake. At the same time in the bay in the foreground there's hardly a zephyr. The boats came in in slo-mo with 2 reefs and a handkerchief jib that day.
Some 3.000 meter peaks tower over the scenery.
Icy water and cool temperatures even in Sept.
