where in the world

There seem to be some nearby spits of land protecting the harbor and then some more substantial land in the distance - maybe a few miles away?
So if this in NY State are we on the northern shore of Long Island looking across to Connecticut?

I have never been to Long Island, unless you count landing at JFK. It seems there are a LOT of YC here, good starting point. A lot of them look really fancy.

Several harbors on Long Island have Presidential ties.
this is a good clue.
We have ruled out Port Washington, but I see Port Jefferson and Roosevelt beach
Nova Scotia is cooler than this place. They probably wouldn't have a half-dozen American flags sticking out of a flower box in Nova Scotia. Unless they use them to keep track of how many sailboats the lobstermen have run into in the fog this year. To reiterate, the C420's are being sailed by a High School team. It is October, so the slips in the foreground at the busy marina/hotel/restaurant are mostly empty of their heavy contingent of powerboats. Besides hosting pleasure boaters this is also a port with frequent tug & barge movements and other commercial traffic.

maybe this is a red herring, got me to Danford's hotel/marina in Port Jefferson. ticked about 5 of the 7 boxes, but probably not good enough. building looks slightly different and we don't have a power station in view.
(the difference between the streetview and satellite pic shows the boating is very seasonal!)

Port Jefferson, LI?
Shebeen has done some good sleuthing, but Der Dude got it first: Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY. The Fifth Season Restaurant is worth sailing over to from Connecticut (16 miles +/-) , with a locally-sourced menu that changes almost daily. They have lovely views of the harbor from the second floor. This window shot does not show the ferry terminal, the electric power station, the gravel yard or the oil terminal on the west side of the harbor, each of which call for significant numbers of ship and barge movements. The local High School sails out of the Port Jefferson Yacht Club - not one of the fanciest on Long Island (check out Seawanhaka) - but certainly well-equipped, conveniently located and quite a friendly place. Go for it, Der Dude!

Well what tough one that was.
I met some of their members up in Danish waters in the 90ies on their Fleet of Halberg Rassys. A funny lot exploring the Baltic from their British enclave. Apparently they resurrected pleasure sailing in Kiel after the war.

He did indeed, I was not convinced at first even though I was at the right spot. The difference in view from your pic and google streetview suggests you had a long lens or something to close the depth of field (i think that is the correct term).

The pic I posted with the reflecting bow was from Seawanhaka, despite the "corinthian" title it looks very A-list!

I think this is at the state pier in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Possibly taken onboard the schooner Ernestina-Morrissey with the Nantucket II lightship in the background.

Yes! @chrishampe has the location. It is indeed New Bedford MA, USA's #1 fishing port.

The vessel in the foreground is Hōkūleʻa, the Polynesian double-hulled voyaging canoe which just happened to be in New Bedford on the day in 2016 when the sailing couple in this video were visiting the area.

The New Bedford part of the video starts around 6:25

Your turn @chrishampe.

I identified the lightship first, the Nantucket II, has the thick stays. Then this article ( https://wbsm.com/new-bedford-two-nantucket-lightships-mystery/ ) confirmed the location.
