Yes, the popularity of Tango dancing in Finland may be somewhat surprising. Considering the long, dark winter nights, maybe not so much.
One could draw a bridge to the past time shown in the photos. Short daylight hours as early as late October (wink, wink) and cold temperatures apparently mean a fairly early end to the sailing season in Finland. Possibly to extend it just a little further someone might have come up with the idea of juniors parading their illuminated dinghies in the harbor. However, that's pure speculation on my part. I have never been part of such a parade nor witnessed one first hand.
Initially I was searching for a club I sailed from as a 15-year-old, a long time ago, when passing through Turku on a memorable journey through Scandinavia (without success) when I came across the pictures shown above that seemed quite fitting for christmas time.
Both the Tango dancers and the cowboy rock-n-rollers point to the place you might be looking for. Tillerman came so close I believe he's holding back the answer because he might be running low on ideas. I could relate to that.
However, if you came here to enjoy the music or the dancing, that's perfectly OK.
