where in the world

Indeed it is Lake Baikal.

Here are a few of the better images, but they were all searchable, so not good clues.
(Before this exercise, I hadn't thought about it, but there is a long history of sailing on Lake Baikal, including trade routes going back to the 1600's).

p.s. Apple TV lists the Siberia episode as season 3, episode 14 (not 5)

The show was a quest for a drink that included Russia's national drink (before vodka), and sacred ice blessed by a holy man. They ended up with Polugar (a 100 proof spirit) on Olkhun Island with Lake Baikal ice and a shaman.

Not Siberia

Seems to have been taken before color photography was commonly available.

On the other hand, the Toppers say it is post-1977 and somewhere in the British Isles.

Toppers say uk . Looks like a large estuary, so maybe Devon or Cornwall. So maybe Salcombe, Falmouth, Exmouth or Dartmouth or somewhere similar . But maybe even south west wales . Best chance of identifying the place is probably identifying the boat sailing with the toppers . 😀

You are on the right track. I think for fairness I need one suggestion, not a list. Btw, it is high tide.

Yes it is. So where is it? And for bonus points, what is the class of the wooden dinghy?

For a gold star, who are the two famous authors associated with which nearby building?
