Once we took my old boat to Montauk, which is the sport fishing capital of Long Island.
No, its the surf casting capital of the world.

Not sport fishing.
That was my first and last visit to Montauk. The harbor was wall-to-wall Hatterases, Cabos, and Bertrams. If there is a place in Long Island with more of those things, and the guys who own them, and their skanky women, I'd like to know about it, so I can stay away.
There is no "harbor" at Montauk. Marina's and a shallow lake only.

Maybe you fucked up and went to Block by mistake.

ok....so re my original question.....rather than trying to find a signature food of long island, i should serve long island duck and long island iced tea...cause no one here will get the connection unless it is that straight forward...very well.

Remind me to tell you how to identify a long island duck.

Back in the early 60's Elle, when I was a wee little lad, the potato farms stretched from all the way out east to nearly the Nassau-Queens border. So you have to go with Long Island Potatoes. Then there is Long Island Duck. Was once considered one of the finest ducks you could eat. The third thing Long Island is known for, or was know for, was Sod Farms. Yeah, when they came up with the phrase "The grass is always greener" they were talking about good old Long Island. Then, of course, there is Long Island Iced Tea. The island is also known for excellent corn. And now-a-days it has developed a very good reputation for wine grapes.

BTW Elle, people from Long Island aren't "in" Long Island, they are "on" Long Island.
perfect! got it...on long island :) i don't think i'll feed 'em grass but the rest sounds like a good plan. only...where do i find long island potatoes?

The Potato Salad from the German Delies around where I lived usually offered two kinds. A traditional German that was had a light amount of mayo, onion, seasoning and the potatoes were cut into chunks, skin left on. The Long Island potato salad was a whole heaping of mayo, very lightly seasoned, some fresh parsley to garnish with the potatoes being de-skined and thinly sliced, like 1/8" slices. Come to think of it, the slices were always round and smallish, like 1 to 1 1/2" in diameter. Perhaps they only used spring potatoes. Good shit though.

Also Elle, you might look into oysters and clams. Long Island harvests a whole ton of shellfish.
The German salad usually had bacon bits and vinegar as I recall. No mayo.

Can you even find a potato farm anymore? would imagine they are all strip malls, condos, and vineyards now.
