Can we donate Florida to Cuba. Big tax cuts for all Yankees.

Yes, and to that I say "Fuck their feelings"They were triggered by the word “and”.
They need to have their feelings declared valid and to be reassured that they will not be replaced.

I am sure you mean "underserved". Of course, folks like Peter, vvv, and the rest of the Faithful see communities of color as undeserving.Hmmm, which communities are undeserved in America? White ones or those of color? You know what's interesting about poor communities? White ones fair better than those of color. Harris spoke of all the undeserved. She pointed out communities of color also. Because there IS a difference and that difference is how disaster aid is distributed. Again, why are you triggered when people of color have access to things you have been privileged to your entire life?
If making policy, what would you call the most recent storm to guide insurance agencies and investors?
A Ten year storm? Fifty year storm? A 100year storm?
The implications for development, business, ecology, water and politics are massive. Are we taking climate change and sea level rise seriously or not?
It's an interesting question. Our (left coast) club needs to shore up our hoist, a degraded piling problem. If we replace the structure, we would have to elevate it to something like 3' or so to meet the code requirements of "worse case sea level rise" - of course, the club lands are probably not tenable at that level. If we repair (sistered piling, beam reinforcement) it can be done at the current elevation. If making policy, what would you call the most recent storm to guide insurance agencies and investors?

Sea level rise is so slow that nothing needs to be done other than adjust as needed over time. Same as man has been doing, while women cook, clean and have babies, since the end of the last Ice AgeIf making policy, what would you call the most recent storm to guide insurance agencies and investors?

When I read about the communities that are forward thinking, building solar, streets as flood diversion, swales for runoff treatment, I have some hope that we CAN do better.Personally, I’m tired of subsidizing land developers and the venture capitalists who drive development on barrier islands and changing wetlands into more profitable ground for construction.
We end up paying for it with increased insurance rates and the need to bailout southern coastal states who see no reason to curtail the flow of taxes stemming from such economic activity, especially since when inevitable storms wipe out infrastructure they can count on a massive influx of “emergency” relief.
We are also all paying for Big Sugar’s environmental predation, which spoils the rivers and environment while using enormous quantities of water supplies from aquifers increasingly jeopardized by rising sea levels.
Why do these rich industries and business require federal handouts? Why are CONservatives so in favor of throwing good money after bad, especially since it is these same businesses and industries which create the environmental health concerns which further impoverish lower tiers of of society? Aren’t you sick of paying for their mismanagement of Florida?
Stop with this Big Sugar cry !Personally, I’m tired of subsidizing land developers and the venture capitalists who drive development on barrier islands and changing wetlands into more profitable ground for construction.

Stop with this Big Sugar cry !
It is no longer Big Sugar
If you are on a crusade for clean water in Florida
Start with clearing of vegetation on a regular basis
Lake O
and all the Corp of Engineers drainage canals, they are choked with vegetation both living and decade muck. I can remember when the sides of the canals were bright fresh cut limestone and the water clear .
Big Sugar is just a boogeyman financial target and they don’t produce nearly the acreage that they did when it was indeed Big Sugar.
It is so sad to see the fallow and now barren pineapple and cane fields in Lahaina that now are eroded volcanic rock and thorn scrub
I thought they had already repo'd south Floriduh. Can we donate Florida to Cuba.
Of course it does!Really?
So, I guess if you really believed BITD that trees cause air pollution, you can believe canal vegetation causes water pollution.
I'd be interested in your idea as to the mechanism behind these algal blooms.Of course it does!
Ya know those algae blooms
As would the world. Natural or man made?I'd be interested in your idea as to the mechanism behind these algal blooms.
