This was pulled from Worldometers.   Deaths are being tabulated on a government schedule and no longer daily in most states.   Death is a late outcome of course.    The trend looks ominous.   As I have stated before, I expect everybody will be exposed to this virus eventually.   My view was unpopular last year.   I think its becoming more obvious.    Florida actually has a decent rate of vaccination for the US (about 64% of people over 18).   That doesn't mean vaccines don't work, most positives with vaccination won't end up in ICU or on a slab.

Not headed in the right direction, just too many people still unvaccinated to stop this delta variant. It takes the special kind of stupid shown by the likes of Kate and Wess to let us get back into this mess again. Of course we will not see the death rates of last winter, as most of these cases are younger, but there will still be a lot of gnashing of teeth in the months to come. We also will not see major lockdowns again as there is no appetite for that, so we will just have to struggle through this mess.

It is noticeable that the US had less cases than the UK in the past 7 days and yet 5X the number of deaths.  The UK has a higher proportion of the population that is vaccinated.

Every 1000 deaths from CV19 going forward is 900 deaths that we could and should have prevented.  Damn shame.

Countries that I care directly about right now and for my sailing in the next year. UK cases are amazing, but deaths remain mercifully low, although let's not forget the four week lag between cases and deaths.

Headed almost straight up in some places, even my home state of Illinois. Locally we have almost 60% fully vaccinated, plus 20% previously infected, although there will be some overlap in those categories, so perhaps 70% immunized, and yet we are seeing cases up five fold just since our low in mid-June with positivity rate back up to 3.8% - https://www.c-uphd.org/champaign-urbana-illinois-coronavirus-information.html. As warned, herd immunity will be a lot harder to achieve in the face of the delta variant.

The only reason it's getting better in the United States is because we have strong leadership!

States scale back virus reporting just as cases surge

Nation Jul 24, 2021 1:39 PM EDT

OMAHA, Neb. — Several states scaled back their reporting of COVID-19 statistics this month just as cases across the country started to skyrocket, depriving the public of real-time information on outbreaks, cases, hospitalizations and deaths in their communities.

The shift to weekly instead of daily reporting in Florida, Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota marked a notable shift during a pandemic in which coronavirus dashboards have become a staple for Americans closely tracking case counts and trends to navigate a crisis that has killed more than 600,000 people in the U.S.

In Nebraska, the state actually stopped reporting on the virus altogether for two weeks after Gov. Pete Ricketts declared an end to the official virus emergency, forcing news reporters to file public records requests or turn to national websites that track state data to learn about COVID statistics. The state backtracked two weeks later and came up with a weekly site that provides some basic numbers.

If we shut our eyes and put our fingers in our ears, COVID-19 disappears.  Gee, this summer cold came on so quickly...

But suddenly they are doing a 180.  DeSantis, Scalise, McConnell...  Even FOX is telling people to get vaccinated.  Must be because they don't want an another economic shutdown.
Well that's nice,

but stopping from keeping track of whats actually happening is just dangerous, and then the numbers are easily politically played with,  as always.

Rinse repeat.

It is hilarious watching the jerks on FOX backtrack and try to claim they were never anti-vaxxers. They had a whole show this past weekend trying to revise their history.

In the greater Houston area the positivity rate for July is 7x of June. In other news we the people pay for covid hospitalization and long haul treatments.  We don't have universal healthcare except for this case.

Thanks to all who do their part to fuck it up.

NBC just covered a guy who spent 187 days in hospital and survived. To his credit he did get a shot, but caught covid three days afterwards, before immunity could build, let alone a second shot. So we all pay for his treatment, which must run over a million dollars. And now US gov promising to treat long covid as a disability, so we cover that too. Just add it all to the economic costs of this pandemic. And still some Republicans and FOX folks question vaccination and applaud when vaccination rates fall. Imbeciles.

Antivaxxers  create their own narrative.    One locally just lost an uncle to respiratory distress four days after vaccine.   Sure he was tested negative before they vaccinated him.   They always do that.   Yea, the vaccine killed him.
