What Bernie has that armors him against Trump is sincerity.  He's got a 50 year record of saying the same thing.  He's not a flip flopper.

That's generally true and since I like his positions on foreign policy and he's been consistent in that area I've been an admirer for a long time.

But even Bernie isn't immune to the Gungrabbiness Uber Alles ethos of his party. Last time around, Hillary challenged him on his support for the PLCAA and he immediately folded and adopted the party line.

If he's the nominee, I'll likely vote Libertarian again. The only one who could inspire me to vote for Trump would be Bloomberg because he's a fan of the stupid prohibition programs embraced by both halves of the Duopoly. The perfect storm of nanny statism.

I think the embrace of Bloomberg isn't a particularly good strategy personally - fighting a rich plutocrat with another rich plutocrat smells good in NYC but I'm not sure it's a winning strategy anywhere else.  I guess he gave them 200 million reasons to reconsider their debate rules.  I'm in general agreement that the best counter to $peech is more $peech so God speed Mike!

Nothing actually stunned me more than someone suggesting Bloomberg/Diamond as a democratic dream ticket.

Otherwise, the Trump experiment has been pretty awful and I don't particularly want to extend it.

I suspect that the worst thing the HoR could do right now would be to start new impeachment hearings. So I expect that's what they'll do.

Not that I think that Trump doesn't deserve to be impeached, he does, and he deserves to be convicted, and removed from office (not frog walked out like his victims), and then he needs to stand trial for all of the other crimes that he's been accused of, just like the rest of us would be. And yes, I'd like to see those tax returns that he keeps saying he will release, but always has an excuse for not releasing.

 I think the man is a liar, a cheat, a criminal, and worst of all, a plain old bully.

 I'd spit on him if I thought it would make him melt like the witch in The Wizard of Oz.

If legislators are not aiming to ban ordinary .22's like my wife's then they should stop proposing legislation to do so.

When they propose banning it, I get the idea that they want to ban it. If that makes me a non-serious gun owner, so be it.

I think it boils down to young adults outvoting senior citizens,    There are young racist anti socialist nutters here, but they aren’t the norm.   The old people have semi socialized medicine and want to keep it for themselves.   If it’s raining in key districts Trump voters won’t want to drive.  The other variable is the economy.    It seems that every crash in my lifetime took the experts by surprise, from  Dot Com to the Great one.    That makes sense, if the bankers and brokers could predict the time they would engineer an ejector seat and wouldn’t need government bailouts.  

The power of mass hypnosis and mob panic is humbling.    The last recession left deep scars.    There were cheap commercials on radio selling some kind of financial miracle or get out of debt scheme needed due to the terrible economy,   Those adds finally disappeared in 2019, replaced by adds for house flipping with other people’s money classes.    Now that everybody knows it’s booming it seems the next big recession is inevitable, just like before.    If it happens after the election Trump may face torch lit mobs and need his brown shirts in the national guard and and state militias.    He won’t be able to cut the prime very far, won’t be able to deficit spend much more, and is pretty clueless about financial things anyway.    I remember the optics of President Bush the deader spending a couple hundred 1991 dollars on gasoline in an hour on his boat speeding off the Maine coast while normal people were looking for work.  I was a college kid competing against unemployed adults for summer work.   Mar a Lago favor trading with the half percenters won’t go over well with the downsized.

Yes. They are under informed, and are listening to only what they want to hear. If the legitimate .22 owners, such as your wife were to explain the difference between a .223, or other similar rounds, then maybe there would be a compromise. Instead of explaining, people like you (I'm not saying you specifically) are outraged that their wife's .22 rifle with a 12 shot magazine will be outlawed. It's just not that simple.

I think Trump is truly frightened of Bernie.

OK, I'll start with you. The 10 in 10-22 denotes the standard magazine size: ten rounds, not 12.

They also have smaller ones for Canadians, who have an ongoing (but apparently not too successful) confiscation program for the ten round ones.

But readers of proposed bans know that it's the scary telescoping stock, not the magazine size, that makes my wife's gun a scary gun. The bans say "regardless of caliber of ammunition" so it's not bullet nor magazine size that they find scary.

Back on topic: If Trump wins again in 2020, I suspect the USA is going to start experiencing a brain drain. Smart people will start pissing off in droves to countries where the leaders are not ignorant mobsters.
