Rock clearly grew up in a neighborhood a bit rougher than the ones Smith was allowed to visit. Rock took that punch like Rocky Marciano took a featherweight across the chin. It didn't even appear to phase him, at least in comparison to some former actor who apparently can't take a joke.

I've watched it a number of times and it almost looks like Will has a smile on his face as he walks away. Also looks like Chris was sticking his jaw out leading up to it. I tend to agree it was staged.

I’m not sure how a scripted slap would benefit either man. It’s Hollywood, so my first thought was it’s fake. But why would both of them agree to it? How would it benefit Smith to look out of control? And why would Rock agree to being slapped? How do they as individuals benefit. And remember. Both would have to benefit, not just one or the other.

And neither benefits by the Oscars ratings, so forget about that.
