Someone really needs to make a thread titled

"WINNER IS FIRST TO NINE, NOT BEST OF 17"

and pin it at top.

I can't entirely blame people for getting confused since "best of 17" has been repeated in the media and elsewhere online, but it keeps getting asked here so much it really needs a pin.

Everyone knows now that if ETNZ can win 7 races, there aren't enough for Oracle to win.

So after that if Oracle keeps winning and winning, Alighi will be asked to join the finals where they can take the cup home by winning the extra 2 races required.

The math is simple 17 races 9 wins take the silverware.

Races sailed: 7

Races to sail: 10

ETNZ WON 6

OTUSA WON 1

Given the cheating penalty of minus two races the standings are:

ETNZ 6

OTUSA -1

RACES LEFT: 10

Therefore OTUSA (MUST) win all 10 races left.

If ETNZ win any single race that makes it impossible for OTUSA to make 10 wins.

THEREFORE..........

1 race to go, the other two are mere formality.

No, by making it -2 for Oracle they made it that 2 more races would be sailed if needed. We all know they will not be needed but that is still the way it is.
