Women's J22 Team

Putting together a women's j22 team for next year, with hopes of going to the Rolex in Rochester 2011. We've got a boat, with an overwhelming amount of support and encouragement.

Curious as to what weight other women teams sail at. We've got 3 set crew members, tossing around names/ideas for a 4th. We're curious as to what other women teams -or any competitive teams for that matter- sail around. It's possible we'll be 100lbs under class weight. (Leave it to women to not want to put on weight...)

Any other tips or advice are welcome and appreciated. We've all be sailing for a few years, but new to this experience.

you got to love the six year olds that play on this site don't you?

I would be as close to the class weight limit as possible, I believe it is 606lbs, find a small hot chick to sit on the rail

If your location has consistently strong breezes, get as many people as it takes to max your weight out. Then, make sure you rotate people through the various crew positions so that everyone learns, and feels like they contribute more than weight on the rail and make the crew more flexible in case someone can't make the race (illness, injury, etc).

Good luck, and take pictures!

Good luck, sounds like you will have fun! My wife is doing teh same thing with our J/22 up in Tawas, Michigan. We will be having a regatta next summer in August. We will more than likely have 4-6 Rolex teams showing up. Open water, great chance for a tune up for Rolex. PM me if you are interested, I know it is along way away...

Woooo Woooooooo! I recommend making sure the J/22 trailer has an ARUBA license plate for starters... and that you have the most gloriously colored spinnaker in the fleet!

I loved that spinnaker. If only some jerk knew how to throw a tow line without getting knots in it...

Get as close to max weight as you can and if that's not an option (and even if it is...)learn to depower the boat. My wife is on a team doing the same thing as you. They are sailing with 4 and are about 100lbs under weight. They really got hammered at the NA's this year in Buffalo when the breeze was on. Unfortunately, the 4th person really doesn't do a whole lot.

Have you talked to Meagan Ruhlman yet ? She's knows a thing or two about the Rolex and the J22.
