World Championship - The Dinghy Formerly Known as the Laser

Anyone know the scoop on what has happened to Gold Medalist Matt Wearn.  It is not like Matt to miss a good scrap.

Shout out to Seb, not the event he wanted but as the youngest competitor on the course, fresh from gold at the youth worlds,  this is valuable experience and he will grow in stature in all senses of the word.

The infamous Irish commentator (2012 Olympics) will be getting very excited by Finn's recovery

I'm going to guess that the main reason Seb isn't performing better is lack of boatspeed. He's only 16 and must be a featherweight compared to the Laser Standard guys! If they had a day in the 8kt range I think his results would be a lot different.

Yup. What an embarrassment. So much for the US being the birthplace of the Laser.
Correction. Canada was the birthplace of the Laser. 9 Canadians at the World’s - a couple in the Gold and a couple in the top 5 silver. Nothing remarkable, but certainly better representation than the US.

Regardless - no denying the ILCA remains the undeniable global king of the single-handlers. 9 nations in the top 10! 19 in the top 25! And 126 sailors from all over the world. After all the shit this class has been through, I think this is remarkable.

Hence the reference to "growing in stature".  The gold in Oman was a pretty awesome come-from-behind last leg.

One of my favorite youth sailors . Not least because a few years ago, he gave up his bedroom so that these aging bones did not have to pass out on the couch.

Pretty sure Mom is Canadian....must be something in the Moose piss.

Well, ummm, Bruce Kirby was living in the US by the time he designed the Laser  and it was launched because it won a competition for a boats under $1,000 held by a US Magazine, One Design and Offshore Yachtsman.   But the original concept was Ian Bruce's and he was the one who had the vision to keep the design simple and strictly one design , and the first ones were made in Canada . The sail was designed by Hans Fogh also Canadian. So built and designed by 3 Canucks and launched by a Canadian entrepreneur....I guess we have to give this one to the Maple Leaf.   First worlds were in Bermuda though.

Well, ummm, …
…ummm…?
How charitable of you to “give this one to the Maple Leaf”.  Cracks me up. The only thing truly American about the Laser is the lawsuit BK won!
