Wow, I enjoy being young. A few quick questions, what is IOR, is a blooper really a sail or is it like the whomper in wind, what is a RDF, was LORAN really used by anyone besides fisherman and how the hell did anyone navigate before GPS?

summertime dream was a summertime nightmare

alviso had enough water for annual regattas

350 dinghies on a lake outside of redding was just another memorial day regatta

tommy b was pretty much a regular joe

kostecki was just another jr

silvestri's parents bought him into the fleet only to p.o. the regulars and opt out the following season

A Death Roll is not a sushi menu item.....

You think double spreaders are new....

Toe rail is usefull........

Your sailmaker asks if you want hanks or snaps on your jib.....

Yarn Tempered is your idea of low stretch sail material....

You miss the Marina Del Rey to San Diego race.....

You still race around Catalina....

You listen to that drone guy who reports the weather on VHF....

You can remember when Santa Cruz was the center of the sailing universe.

And Randy Repass opened his 3rd store on 17th Ave. And your foulies were made by North Sails

And you could hop on the Merlin, or a O30, or a SC27 or SC50, or a Moore24 on a Wed nite.

And they all still had that new boat smell.

And you had to worry about tripping over that little Morgan Larsen kid as he scurried around SCYC.

Lucky Me... wish I had more pictures.

-you would look for a ride around Catalina in February...

-a Friday night out was delivering a boat to Fish Harbor for a Whitney Series Race with a bunch of friends and a couple cases of Lucky Lager.

-every weekend was the debut of a another new custom racer...

-your dream was to be a sailmaker when you grew up..

-you rode up PCH to Santa Barbara for the SB-KH race in the bed of a pick-up truck with 6 other people and a couple cases of Lucky Lager...

-you saw Dave Ullman in those red pants when they were still red..

-Rod Davis had an American accent...

You know your getting old when, people start playing the "you know your getting old game."
LMAO

You know you're old if

* Cal 40's are sleds

* DC is "just a little heavy"

* Imp and Williwaw are coooool

* Your boat still has a Signet knot meter

* Dragons are wood

* you know what Lubriplate is

* you want to meet Jim Kilroy and tell him how bitchin' Kialoa III is

* Bravura and Bondi Tram are on the cover of the mags in the bathroom

* Farr boats are these weird looking boats with "too small" jibs

and the list goes on.....

Damn, I have been doing this a loooonng time.

How about:

When Lasers were those new 'tuperware" boats

420's had both a cat and sloop rigged mast steps

Dragons had winches

You still have a blooper in the garage! ( Almost flew it the other day too.)

Your whole crew were men (nice change)

Hell, not only were Dragons wood but so were stars!

Cross cut and mitre cut sails anyone?

Nylon sail on an El Toro

We we're pondering the graying of our sport the other day and came up with a few:
....you wonder why you don't see bloopers any more.

...you remember when Dave Ullman "was just a kid."

...you get nostalgic at the sight of a pintail stern.

...you think multihulls are weird and don't belong in racing fleets.

...think Windward Passage is the greatest boat ever.

...still think aluminum rigs are safer than carbon.

...you think AC boats are 12 meters.

...you still say "you can't go wrong with Dacron."

...consider dinghy racing to be 'junior sailing."

....think IOR was "the good old days.".

...you wonder why sprit boats don't just "pull the pole back."

...think Sailing World is still good.

Got a few of your own?
