I happen to think it is sloopy, lazy construction for a proper cabin interior, and poorly designed and not made for the demographic of most new boat buyers (they are generally over 50). Having sailed solo, very tired and wet and on a hard tack - they are tripping hazards. Being knocked out or breaking ribs due to falling on frames could be game ending.
Glad you never lost your footing.
I get what you’re saying BJ, but:
- I want toeholds below. I’ve seen more accidents from flat floors;
- they stop water moving longitudinally through the boat;
- floorboards are sectioned , ie: much more manageable;
- floor is lower which increases headroom;
- you can have tethers on the vertical faces without acting like trip hazards; and
- you can have stuff like emergency water stay in one spot rather than sliding through the boat.
I’ve lost my footing plenty of times when you’re falling off waves and landing in troughs. Thankfully the transverse stringers were there to pull me up before it could get nasty.
Never once did I see one ‘trip’ me or my crew.
YMMV indeed.
